Jon:
The Sears Craftsman warranty reads:
"Craftsman hand tools are guaranteed forever. If any Craftsman hand
tool ever fails to give complete satisfaction, return it to Sears for
free repair or replacement. This warranty gives you specific rights
and you may also have other rights which vary from state to state.
Other Craftsman tools are covered by limited warranties."
This can be found (along with customer and Sears employee comments) at:

nty/
To me, that means a full, unconditional, perpetual warranty. Yes, as
you said, they aren't as good as they once were - they were once the
benchmark of hand tools. According to the link above, it would be
very detrimental to Sears Holdings Corporation to abrogate that
warranty.
However, I cannot find the Craftsman warranty on sears.com or
craftsman.com. Craftsman.com says, "For Warranties and Policies,
contact your local Sears store." (capitalization theirs)
