Hans, The fender mounts on the lower legs differ between 50/51 and 52/53. As far as I know the tree, top clamp, upper legs, and covers are same for all years....
the nycpd didn't have radios in the patrol cars till 1964. they all used call boxes on every other street corner. even to this day when responding to a call...
That bike may have sold in 1953 and may be registered as a 53 but it is a 1952 with an id of CS6118. Nothing wrong with 52's. Hell, probably twice as many...

The 52/53 legs will have a lower mount bracket located 4" below the upper mount. This bracket is identical to the upper except one mounting leg is cut off....
