Duff, John, Ed and Cotton, Thanks for the reply and sorry it has taken me so
long to reply, been away from the computer. I used Jerry Greer's parts catalog
to put this together and it showed not using the check ball that I left out. The
link that John sent did not work, but I will install this check soon. Thanks
again Gary Barker

Gary
If you have the alum pump Both ball checks need to be in place, (1) ball
check in the lower base of the pump to feed the pinion will not keep oil from
seaping down from the tank. The other ball check is often removed by people who
do not understand the pump system. The second ball was only removed as per a
factory service shot when opperating the motor at very low temps when the oil
became very heavy and did not flow well. Service shot explains this rather
plainly but is often by-passed. If both checks are in place then yes the balls
need to be seated and/or the springs replaced.

Hello list, I now have 1000 miles on my 346/348 and having a bast riding it. I
still have it in primer paint and it turns heads every time I ride it. When I
built it, I didn't lap or sit the check ball in the oil pump that I needed to
leave in and I wet sump every day, to stop this is all I need to do is lap it
in? Thanks Gary Barker
