BAM! you are right! I had never experienced that before. I typically
owned ghia's before and never ran into that before. I started her up
and ran her for about 15-20 minuts and the noise is gone (purrs like
a kitten) THANKS! I was ready to pull the engine this week end. Now
I'll put her on the road Monday and hopefully drive her to the
meeting!
Thanks!

decided to move onto my next phase....A 74 westy. I drove it up from

197?? VW Squareback Trailer-Best Offer - Best Offer
Bought this off a friend of mine a couple of years ago because he was moving.
Well, now I'm moving and i've got to get rid of a few things. Buyer must pick

to cut from the rear foward and slap on the rear of the other. Both doors swing
and rear lights work like normal. Hitch comes off of main frame and e-brake
still works. I person can pick up and move around(so little weight on van).
Great project for those of us that need to practice on the body work. BEST OFFER

well.
Thanks for looking!! All windows are solid w/ no cracks. ALSO HAS: two extra

HOW WE MADE GASOLINE
by Norris Chambers
http://www.texasescapes.com/Texas1930s/Gasoline.htm
You youngsters pull up a chair - it's time to reminisce again. This episode
doesn't directly have to do with making money at home, but as one of our early
philosophers said, "A penny saved is a penny earned." Since this operation saved
money, it could, therefore, be classified as a money maker. And back in the
isolated area where we lived, everything that made money was a homemade project.
We were "dirt farmers" by the most literal translation of the term. In my early
years I spent many hours following mules up and down the rows and milking the
half Jersey cows that produced hereford-looking calves. We sold these little
fellows for about $25.00 each at some stage in their development.
But as the years passed, we went modern and bought an old Fordson tractor. It
had an engine much like a Model T, except it was bigger. It had a large cast
iron radiator in front and a long wide fuel tank on top. This tank held
kerosene, which burned nicely after the engine got hot. There was a small
gasoline tank used for starting the engine. As cheap as fuel was in those days,
it required an item that was extremely scarce - cash. So we did as many others
in that part of the county did. We decided to make our own tractor fuel.
There were many oil wells in the area, and anyone who wanted oil felt free to
help themselves. The price was so low that it barely paid the operators to pump
it, and they didn't care if you took a few barrels for your own use. The process
of making gasoline from oil was pretty well known among those in the area. It
was quite simple. Heat the oil in an enclosed container, and condense the vapor
by running it through a coolant.
My dad and I built a small dirt tank about a half mile from the house, and
before making the dam we ran a 1" pipe through it. On the low side of the dam,
we dug a hole large enough for a five gallon can. This is where the fuel would
come out. Above the tank we placed a fifty-five gallon barrel on some rocks and
fitted the pipe to the vent hole in the top. When it rained and filled our new
tank, we were ready to start refining.
Two fifteen gallon barrels were filled with fresh oil and poured in the barrel.
Then we started the fire about it. Before long fumes began to come out of the
pipe below the dam, and shortly thereafter the gasoline began to run out in a
small stream. The first that came out was very high in octane, and would
evaporate from your finger as soon as you dipped it in the mixture. But as it
continued to distill, it became less volatile. We found from experience that the
first ten gallons that we got made good automobile fuel, and that the next six
or eight gallons was composed of varying grades of kerosene. But all of it mixed
together made excellent tractor fuel. After the first batch, we used the residue
to fuel a fire for the next cooking. Because of the heat involved, we never made
more than once a day.
This process continued for many months. I want to tell you about one time in
particular. It was about three o'clock in the afternoon, and we had just fired
up for the day's production. But today we had a vapor leak around the union that
connected our cooling line to the barrel. Of course the vapor ignited, and
started blowing a stream of flame down on the barrel...
.... The barrel kept getting hotter, and the gasoline was shooting out of the
pipe in a gushing stream. The fire down the side of the barrel was getting
larger.
My dad said, "You better run to the house and tell your mother that we are all
right. It's going to blow. I'll stay here and catch all the gas I can." I took
off in a fast run, jumping the fence into the calf pasture, hurried across it
and jumped it on the other side. I was just below the hog pen, which was on the
top of the hill. It was at this point that it exploded.
The ground trembled, and there was a blast that sounded like thunder. I looked
back, and there was a large, black ring about two or three hundred feet in the
air flaming in the center. Soon the flame burned out, and there was a tremendous
black doughnut high in sky. It was a beautiful sight, in an awesome sort of way.
At the same moment the shock wave struck, the chickens got excited and ran
squawking in all directions and, believe it or not, one of the pigs jumped out
of the pen. It is unusual for a pig to jump. One might root his way under, but
never jump. I will always remember that lost pig "oinking" and trying to find
his way back into the pen. I continued my journey to the house and informed my
mother that we had anticipated the blast, and all was well. She insisted on
accompanying me back to the scene. When we arrived, everything was quiet. My dad
was pouring his gasoline into the storage barrel and was grinning from ear to
ear.
"You should have seen how fast it came out before it blew," he told us. "The
explosion went straight up, and didn't do anything except blow the top out of
the drum." He was right. The barrel still stood there on the rocks, its top
missing. The pipe that ran into the tank was curled up for about fifteen feet.
The top was missing. We found the top several weeks later, a few hundred yards
from the scene, well hidden in some brush. The barrel was burned so nice and
clean that we used it for years for hauling water.
We had some old clothes hanging on the bushes that we used to wipe our hands.
About thirty minutes after the explosion, one of our few neighbors came
hurriedly through the brush toward our site. He saw the old rags on the bushes,
and he thought that was all that was left of us after the explosion. People as
far as ten miles away heard the explosion and saw the ring in the sky. There
were all kinds of guesses as to what happened. One theory was that a balloon had
exploded at a picnic in the next county.
It never occurred to us that our process was dangerous. If the drum had burst on
a side, or on the bottom, all of that fire and smoke could have been directed
toward my dad, and the gasoline he was catching could have ignited. We got
another barrel and continued to make gasoline for several seasons without
further mishap.
This is not a project that I would recommend. Besides being very dangerous, it
is no doubt illegal. (It might have been then).
So stick to your profitable knitting - and above all, HAVE FUN!
So, if your stuck in a post apocolyptic world and manage to get your VW running,
now you know how to distill fuel to run it on.

rear suspension is a custom welded trailing arm that mounts a VW vanagon bearing carrier assembly, Audi 5000T rear rotors and subaru front calipers (have parking brakes)
rear rims are audi 5000 Turbos 15x6 ET35 using 84 Chrysler mini van rear shocks.
interior is custom dash + center console VW rabbit GTI seats slightly modified to mount in the stock bug locations.

1966 Ghia Vert parts car - 500 1966 ghia vert parts car. got way in over my head on this one, and my buddy with the welding equipment moved away. this car has no title. bumpers, dash trim, front seats, hubcaps, gas tank, speedo, decklid and hood, doors and door glass, windsheild, transmission are there. 1600DP engine in the pictures is gone, I have a 1300 engine that comes with the car. rear seat, vert top bow and the soft top material, and rear window, clock, door panels, tack strip are missing. comes with some assorted bits. 3 tires hold air, one has no valve stem. car is certianly undrivable, you must drag her onto a flatbed.
it was pulled from a NJ, junkyard so title may be a tough issue. but there is a Title company in Georgia that could likely get one for under $300.
i pulled it out of a junkyard in southern NJ. my goal is to restore it, keeping some of the groovy 1966 only pieces while making it a safe and fun little car.

1960 Volkswagen Single Cab Pickup with tarp rack. Fold down sides that still
work and clamp together. Was on Ebay before, couldn't find title, but now have
it so it's being re-listed. Motor is out of truck and needs exhaust valve in #3
cylinder head and possibly some other small parts, but is basically together.
Exterior is rusted but frame is solid. Fender wells in rear have been cut. One
of the front windshields is not original glass. The interior is rough.
Transmission worked well last time it ran, brakes were new, don't hold pressure
now as truck has been sitting for a few years. Will need to be towed.
Bed is solid, side doors work fine but aren't perfectly straight, was a work
truck so it's been around the block. Would make a great parts car or could be
restored.

15. You don't have to sneak bus magazines into the house.
14. The Ten Commandments don't say anything about buses.
13. If someone takes pictures or videotapes of you driving your bus, you don't have to worry about them showing up on the Internet if/when you become famous.
12. Your bus won't keep asking questions about other buses you've driven.
11. It's perfectly respectable to drive a bus you've never met before, just once, or, drive many buses in the same day whether you know them or not.
10. When you see a really good bus, you don't have to feel guilty about imagining driving it.
9. If your regular bus isn't available, it won't object if you drive another bus.
8. Nobody will ever tell you that you can go blind if you drive a bus by yourself.
7. You don't have to go to a sleazy shop in a seedy neighborhood to buy bus stuff.
6. You can have a bus calendar on your wall at the office, tell bus jokes and invite co-workers to ride with you without getting sued for harassment.
5. There's no such thing as a Bus Transmitted Disease.
4. If you want to watch buses on television, you don't have to subscribe to a premium cable channel (but you might need a video tape).
3. Nobody expects you to promise to drive the same bus for the rest of your life.
2. You don't have to be a newlywed to plan a vacation primarily for the enjoyment of bus driving.
1. Your bus will never say, "What? You just drove me last week! Is that all you ever think about?"
1.The garage shall be forever kept as the sacred realm of the Man. No lacy curtains nor gingham privacy panels shall be allowed on the windows of the sacred garage.
2.The garage shall not be cleaned, except in cases of extreme need, such as when a pair of holy Vise-Grip locking pliers hath gone missing.
3.Sawdust, grease, and oil are the holy sacraments of the garage, and thus must never be disposed of in haste or with malice.
4.Honor thy rags.
5.Complaineth not when the Man's Friends cometh over to work on a four-wheel-drive vehicle on a Thursday night until 2:00 a.m. Be thee grateful that the Man and his Friends are not attending stimulating performances of voluptuous harlots at Shotgun Willies on this evening.
6.Thou shalt not remove the beer bottles from the front yard before work in the garage hath yet been completed. Yea, the front yard must be considered an extension of the garage when the garage door remaineth in an upright and horizontal position.
7.Honor the Man and his Friends at all times, even when one of these Friends dropeth a heavy steel truck wheel in the driveway at 12:30 a.m., awakening thyself and wrathful neighbors who calleth to complain.
8.Storeth not antique doll houses in the garage.
9.Thou shalt not ask the Man to bring in the groceries when you see that his hands are greasy, or that he is underneath a car working on the evil U-joint.
10.Adjust not the volume of music that playeth in the garage. Impose not your questionable music tastes on those who savor the druidic chant of Rage Against The Machine at 11 p.m.
11.Borroweth not the hammer of the Man which hangeth in position on the blessed pegboard. If thou breakest this commandment, at least have the courtesy to place the hammer back in correct position on the blessed pegboard. No, putting it on the workbench isn't good enough how wouldst the man know to looketh there?
12.Tools of the garage shouldst remain in the garage at all times, excepting when the Man shall use them for home repair, in which case the sacred tools must remain wherever the Man leaves them, verily including even the kitchen counter and the upstairs hallway.
13.Leaveth not the tools of the Man on the back porch, lest they become rusty from rain.
14.Loaneth not the tools of the Man to your fishy work friends who hath not earned tools of their own.
15.Pulleth not your car into the garage whilst a repair doth transpire in the other bay. The space is needed for many great deliberations and ritual beer drinking. Considereth any snow removal that may be required from your vehicle the next morning as a small penance to pay in comparison to the bloody knuckles, hangover, and bodily suffering borne by the Man.
16.Closeth the trash can at all time, lest the stinking odor of cat poop foul the air.
17.Covet not the eleven Phillips head screwdrivers on the Man's pegboard, and cast not thy insults on the Man's need for additional screwdrivers in the future. Each screwdriver serves a unique, substitution-impossible purpose.
18.Thou shalt not remove the multitude of straightened, oddly-formed, spray-paint-encrusted coat hangers dangling from the garage ceiling. Resist the temptation to dispose of these humble tools, and your rewards shall include a freshly painted iron planter as soon as the Man finishes working on his four-wheel-drive vehicle, of course.
19.Maintaineth a minimum of six yo-yo's (retracting tape rulers), or findeth not one when needed.
20.A man's worth shall be measured by the number of cans of partially used spray paint on his shelves. However, the Man will never have the right color for the job at hand.
21.Obey the Flat Surface Rule. Always put down the tool you are using on the nearest flat surface. Then look for it elsewhere stopeth for a beer when discouraged.
22.Respect the large piece of cardboard against the garage wall. The Man useth it to lay on when he is under the car. Touch it not, lest lightning strike thee dead.
23.I sayeth to you: No sweeter sound ever shall be heard than thy own air impact wrench in thy own garage.
24.Thou shalt love the smell of grease as thou loveth thyself.
25.Take not the name of GOJO Creme Formula hand cleaner in vain, especially in the fruity orange scent.
