Re: 05 TDI how long do TDIs last?

I looked on amsoil and they say their Manual Transmission & Transaxle
Gear Lube 75W-90 should work? I've never used it but full price its
$13 a quart. http://www.amsoil.com/catalog.aspx?code=MTGQT-EA
"Meets GL-4 performance specifications required by some models of
Acura, Hyundai, Infiniti, Kia, Land Rover, Lexus, Mazda, Mitsubishi,
Nissan, Subaru, Suzuki, Toyota, Volkswagen, Hino Mitsubishi-Fuso, and
Zetor. Ideal for muscle car transmissions such as Muncie, Borg
Warner, Saginaw, Ford Toploader, Dearborn and New Process. Also
recommended for Gear Vendors Gear Splitters."

To clarify a question raised by a previous poster: DOT 4 brake fluid is still mineral based and is indeed water absorbtive. DOT 5 fluid is however silicone...

What happens is the water can get into the system. The fluid may not absorb the water, but it can react with it. this will change the chemical make up of the...
