THANKS for all of the responses, both on and off the list. I currently do 21-26
in town and 26-30 on the highway with my '90 740 wagon. The lower numbers
reflect 10% ethanol and "normal" driving.........the higher numbers reflect gas
with no ethanol and more careful / slower driving.
So.......It sounds like an 850 / 70 would do similar mileage, but with a lot
more power, or a LOT more power with the turbo. I still like the old 740, and
it's giving no indications of giving up the ghosts any time soon......in fact I
recently took it on a 750 mile (each way) trip to Tennessee with no problems
whatsoever. It's always been (and still is) just as reliable as any new car on
the road. But sometime I'd like something a little newer / more refined.
Thanks too for the "heads up" about what to watch for with different model
years. I generally don't care too much about the age of a car, but rather how
well it has been cared for. Good stuff to watch for, though.
Yes, I am certainly familar with interference engines, having owned Hondas for
many years. As you say, it's just a matter of keeping them maintained, and the
maintenance intervals are fairly long (115,000 miles on the current Honda).
Again, thanks for the feedback.
