Hi all,

This is a short description how to setup your Linux system
to run VagCom.

1. Download VAG-COM from http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/download/index.html

2. Make the directory ~/w_c/vagcom/
For those of you wondering about the ~, that's short for the
current user's home directory.

3. Unzip the "betaXX.exe" file to this directory.

4. When you are already creating directories, create these too:
~/w_home/
~/w_tmp/
~/w_cd/
~/w_c/windows/system/
~/w_c/windows/fonts/
~/.wine/

5. Create these files (touch):
~/w_c/windows/win.ini
~/w_c/windows/system/shell.dll
~/w_c/windows/system/shell32.dll
~/w_c/windows/system/winsock.dll
~/w_c/windows/system/wsock32.dll

6. Download Wine from http://www.winehq.com/
I used the version 20010731.

7. Unpack Wine, go to the source and do a ./configure; make depend; make

8. If all goes well, do a su -c "make install"

9. Copy the file "config" to the ~/.wine directory.
This file can be found in the documentation/samples directory
of the Wine source.

10. Make these changes to the config file:

Drive A path should read /mnt/floppy if that's where you mount
your floppy drive.

Similar changes has to be done to drive C, D, E and F.
The directories w_c, w_cd, w_tmp, w_home correspond to these drives.

Find the fonts section and change Resolution to something like 145
on a 1024x768 screen. It might be difficult to read text in VAG-COM
otherwise. You might want to experiment with this value to get the
best reading on your screen. There might be better ways to setup
fonts but this solved my problem.

11. Go to the ~/w_c/vagcom/ directory and run "wine VagCom.exe".
If you are lucky, you don't need MS Windows anymore. :-)
