Valentino started 12th pole and the reason was his qualifying times
werent good as he actully ran off the track onto grass which he
handled well until he hit the gravel slow down barrier which made a
bit of a mees of his bike .But what a rider 14th to 2nd you have to
give it to him a true world beater .Still its great that an Aussie
won the race

Hi Freddy, If you have rotated the eccentric all the way, I'd guess the
chain is worn out. Another way to check is this. Try pulling the chain
away from the rear of the back sprocket. A good chain won't allow you
to pull it away at all. Usually the chain will start showing kinks
before it gets stretched too far. I can't help you on the rubbing
block, but putting on a new chain isn't too hard if you have the right
tools (small hand held grinder, and a chain breaker). Motion Pro sells
a good heavy duty chain tool.
Grind the nubs off a link, take apart the link, connect the new chain
to the old chain, pull the old chain so the new chain gets threaded
onto the drive sprocket. Use the chain tool to mash the nubs on the new
master link, don't squease the master too much. A shop can do the job
in about 10 minutes.
Triumph recomends changing the sprockets with the chain. I don't. The
sprockets last and last. My drive sprocket showed little signs of wear
at 60,000 miles and the rear showed none. I wait until they show signs
of being worn.

In the olden days, I'd put the Bonneville against the wall and hold both brakes
on, bike in gear with clutch lever pulled in, then have a large friend stand on
the kickstart lever. Now we have no kickstart levers, which were much stronger
that sprag-clutch mechanisms are today. Maybe if you get the machine rolling and
the do some clutching while stressing things a bit, it might come loose, but
spending the time and tearing it down is probably the prudent solution.

I should have made it clear that I don't actually follow your friend's
advice. I do actually put the bike into gear, clutch in, against the wall,
then release the clutch.

Hi all, I recently bought a new stock windshield for my '95 900 from
Ebay. The windshield is low enough that I'm not looking thru it, but
the bike has many miles and it doesn't look so good. So I figured if
the price is right I'll put on a new shiny windshield. There it was
on Ebay with no bids, a starting price of a penny, and only one more
day to go. So I put in a bid. Let the horse race begin. I usually put
in a decent maximum bid, and when it comes down to the last 2 minutes
that's when the bidding goes crazy. Sometimes I get to watch the last
few minutes of bidding. It's exciting to watch the bids go up $2.00
or $5.00 at a time. I've caught myself saying, "Better hurry up guy,
you've got only 45 seconds and $30.00 to go. I didn't get to watch
this time on the windshield. Later that day I found out I had won the
bid. Nobody else had bid against me. Lucky me. $12.00 for shipping,
and one penny for the windshield. Wow, will they really send it. Four
days later, there it was on the porch. Okay!
I looked on Bike Bandit to see the retail price it's $219. Man,
sometimes you get lucky. Two days later there is another box on the
porch. I wonder what this is? Another windshield for the '95.
I called them up and told them I'd send it back. They said no thanks,
you can keep it.

Anyone want a new windshield for their old Trophy? Now don't get any
weird ideas, I won't sell it for a penny. Reasonably cheap offers
will be accepted. Let the horse race begin.

Hopefully this works. I'm having some difficulty posting pics.

I've got a bunch of parts from when I had a 1200. The bike tipped
several times so I started investing in parts, figuring that the company
wouldn't be making any again. Also kept most stuff that came off or was
replaced with newer parts (nology coils, wires, front springs, break
caliper).

Have a set of Staintune pipes in great shape - one member here has dibs
but if we can't work it out I'll also post on Ebay. I see there is
already alot of parts out there - you may see these over an extended
period of time if they don't sell right away.

I would suggest that you first be sure that the clutch is properly
bleed. Then, if you can, roll down a hill as you engage it in gear (as
you start the machine), and ride the machine out... In other words,
give the oil and clutch plates a chance to reunite, on the roll... Pull
the clutch in, and release it several times with a slight bit a
throttle, to see if frees up and allows the oil to do its job.

Thanks Carl and others for useful advice.

I'll order a couple of nology coils from a UK dealer. Can anyone give
me a part number - difficult to identify from the website. When I
find the ignition sensor, I'll swap that if the coils don't cure it.

Phil, I'm located in the States - Minnesota. I'd like to clear up a
confusing statement I made. The coils and wires are not Nology.
They are the original (plus a spare used set) saved when I put Nology
wires and coils on my bike when trying to diagnois a stalling
problem.

I did find that the gentleman who dibbed on the Staintune muffler set
said he'd pass on them. They'll be listed on Ebay as well.

Thanks for the inquiry.

Giles,

Cant see the listings in picassaweb for some reason - however might be
interested in a
seat if you have a decent one... Mines gone all wrinkly and pourous. Either i
recover it
or get a replacement..

I can imagine shipping might be a bit steep tho - even Via USPS..

Phil,

You are in the UK right? Try Sprint Manufacturing for new coils at 49
pounds each http://www.triumphparts.gbr.cc/

Make sure you get the PVL coils (these are nology in USA - german make
I think) NOT the original Gill.

Or look on ebay. I think the PVLs used to have red bottoms and the
Gill had black bottoms, but I'm not 100% sure if it's still the same.
I bought three second hand Thunderbird coils for my 900 Trophy from
ebay for 39 pounds and they worked fine, but it's a gamble second hand
of course.

Carl.

Hello!

Why You want pay so much for coils?
I purchased new PVL coils only 27.5£ each from here:
http://www.motobins.co.uk/

Part number 70506. Primary coil resistance is 0.6 ohms, as Triumph
specification requires. I use those coils on my Trophy 1200 already two
years without a problem.

Rainer, Estonia.

Need a new front to relpace the BT020 thats already on there and is rapidly
running out
of tread. Rear has already been replaced with a Dunlop D220 which doesnt seem
too bad.

The local dealer originally recommended the Roadsmart which is apparently the
direct
replacement, however i'm currently being swayed by all the positive comments on
the Avon
Storms (plus they're cheaper!).... I'll be leaving the Dunlop D220 on the back
unless i
have to change it...

Anyone any comment or suggestions on this before i go and get it changed later??

Thanks
Paul

first of all, thanks to all that responded to my 1200 trophy's sticking
clutch problem. it is now freed off and i managed to do it without major
spannering or vandalism! all that was needed was to warm the engine,
therefore the oil, kill the engine and simply rocked it to and fro in 2nd
gear and after a dozen or so pushes it came free.
thanks again.
sparky mark.
oh and by the way, what is with folks in cars who wear hats? i mean,
youngsters with baseball caps drive like they're in a race, dont seem to be
concertrating on other road users...........and older folks wearing pork pie
hats or flat caps pull out in front of you, swerve all over the road and
look as if they cant see beyond the bonnet. beware the hat, thats my mantra.

I went with a set of Storms toward the end of June and now I have 8,000
miles on them. The back may have 2,000 miles left on it. The front
probably has 3,500 miles left on it.

Good wheel alignment seems to have contributed to better tire life. I
set my wheel alignment per the book recommended "string" method not the
index marks. The index marks are just a good starting point.

Also, I talked with an engineer at Avon who told me that the Storms are
performing very well but on average they are not seeing quite the
mileage as they were used to getting from the Azaros.

He also calculated the recommended pressures and said to be sure to
keep the front at 36-38psi and the rear at 42psi for max life. These
values were based on my 1200 with one-up riding conditions.

I've got a 1200 Trophy using Storms. Rear worn out after 8000 miles riding
loaded. Front is disappointing; from a mileage standpoint. Looks like the
front won't last any more than the rear. Back in 1971 at a BMW store a guy
came in with a R/50/5 I guess, anyway a 500 cc. engine and needed a new front
tire. The cord on his showing all the way around and had 50,000 miles on it.
Don't make 'em like they used to do they.

Now, now Mark,

What is it, 80% of heat loss is through the head and, as some of us
approach decrepitude and our hair thins out, we keep our hats on to
conserve our body heat. That way we don't have to keep the heat up
so high...although a heater core in an enclosed vehicle is
essentially a second radiator and, if one isn't doing proper
maintenance, it could partially compensate for all sorts of cooling
system deficiencies, at least in their initial stages. Of course
when a heater core leaks, it gives off the sweet smell of antifreeze
and then you have to tear the dashboard apart to replace them...

Your point is the their hats are blocking their vision? Nobody
should be wearing a head covering that blocks their vision.

Now, now Mark,
you know my old grandfather used to say that his bald head was a 'solar
panel for a sex machine' so my grandma made him wear a cap whenever they
went out doors, lest he come over all amorous on the way to the supermarket
!.
i'm convinced that a hat is a kind of plumage, like in the animal world, to
give a warning signal to others they had better keep a safe distance.
seriously though, its been said that failing eyesight, prescribed medication
and inability to turn the head when at junctions are all causes of poor
driving in the elderly. on the news theres a guy in his sixties who had a
minor stroke while flying a cessner light aircraft and he went blind
mid-flight. he was very lucky that a top RAF pilot was airborne and came
alongside and talked him down safely.......dont know if he was wearing a hat
though, the cessner pilot, not the RAF pilot.
