Sports Cars: Interest grows in Japanese cars
Sporting cars from Japan, like this 1968 Datsun 1600 Roadster, will
be the guests of honor at next year's import show in Carlisle,
Pennsylvania.
You can't blame the folks who organize the big import car show at
Carlisle, Pennsylvania, each year for not giving you enough advance
notice. Especially not when they've just announced their featured
marques for the 2009 show, which lies about 11 months away.
For the 2009 Carlisle Import-Kit/Replicar Nationals, the spotlight
will be focused on all cars from Japan. If you're a regular at the
Carlisle show, you know that Japanese cars have been showing up in
greater numbers in recent years. There are the cars you might expect
to see, such as Datsun's Z-car and 510, first-generation Mazda RX7s
and Toyota Supras, and some more unusual examples, too — think Mazda
Cosmos, Subaru XT-6s and SVXs, and first-generation Honda Civic
CVCCs. Given the kind of enthusiasm that's been building around
Japanese cars, we'd expect next year's show to be memorable.
The import show will be held from May 15-17, 2009, so if you have a
Japanese project car that's been gathering dust out in the shop,
consider yourself on notice. For more information, visit the Carlisle
Web site.
