Thanks to Mark Haney who was inspired to start this discussion group. Set up to discuss the merits and successes of this cooling system add-on concept for the 01-08 Duramax trucks. You must register to enjoy the added features, photos, engineering discussion, tech data, etc. You may join at will. To see all the technical papers (homework) and inside data, check out "Links". It is worth the trouble.
Originally an evolved concept to answer the call for GM cooling system expansion, oil has been identified at over 400 degrees internally in our diesel vehicles during high load conditions. Reduced oil pressure results. Specifically designed for the high flow needs of the GM duramax platform, this mega-sized EOC has the ability to lower peak oil temps by 120 degrees, yet prevent oil overcooling while resoring oil pressure. Issues relating to poor lubricity, oil pressure decay, additive depletion, excessive fan and ECT, cracked pistons, etc, are all aided with this engineered duty cycle expansion innovation, specifically designed for the high 15 gpm needs of the Duramax turbo-diesel motor. This is triple that of most shelf coolers.
Other incidental benefits include 20 degree cooler transmission temps, and 80 degree combustion air temp reductions, translating to lower EGT's. Air conditioning performance also benefits in a big way, with lower vent temps, and noticeably better performance. The fan noise is also reduced, eliminated in some cases, for those using the optioned air dam. In short, this is the single smartest longevity improvement that can be made to the Duramax work vehicle.
