Tranny Gearing and Re: Wrangler DuraTrac

I have been waiting to get few more miles in to let you know how the gearing is.
For those that don't know, Daryl, just rebuilt my tranny. Another conversion
with more torque running MT90 and bad ring and pinion, for what that is worth.
My 16" Syncro has the 5.83 R&P so it was a little bit of a roll of the dice on
what gears. I am really liking the 2 to 3 jump. I do need to remember to use 2nd
gear and get the revs up a little but I can go 55 easily in third and can push
to 60. The Overland 2.6 has plenty of torque in this range. 4th on the other
hand is a little on the tall side. It is pretty good for regular freeway
driving, but in the mountains it will be interesting. We are doing our first
family camping trip this weekend so I will know more after that. I am at 3200rpm
at 70mph which makes for nice freeway cruising.

I will know more after a little more time. I do think that a slightly shorter
tire could make up the difference. I will let you know.

As for the tires. I am hoping to try and friend of mines shorter tires before I
really make up my mind. A wider rim could also help a lot. I went to stiffer
springs as well in my set up although not as stiff as you. I am running 450
front and 475 rear. The Revos are quiet and I really like the tire so far. It is
a little tippy feeling but I have a lifted rig with a big metal rack and a roof
top tent up there as well.

I can answer the would I do it again after I try some other tires.

Craig

I think that's too big, try a 75 series, 225/75 or 215/75 ________________________________ From: alaric.hernandez <alaric.hernandez@...> To:...

Sounds like you have the 0.70 4th and 0.88 3rd that Eric and I both have. Yes, in the mountains I find myself using 3rd to keep up the speed, but that's as...
