Not all of the 2.5L DOHC engines have problems, just the majority of them. And the only real problem with them was head gasket leaking due to weak cylinder...

Others probably know the details better, but I believe the original 2.5 came out in 1995 or 1996, and only in the LSi or Outback with an automatic at first....
