Thx, for taking the time to read my question.
Son has a 1981 Honda XL 185S, it was running
till he messed with the wires. I need some,
help need a site where I can get the wiring
diagrams for that spacifice year and model.
I have tried this site but could not find
that models spec's. It does not have a battery
in the sustem.
Thanks in advance.............
Trevor,
OK, so do you want to try that again in English instead of Engineer?

Danny,
Sorry about the delay, the 'real' work has got in the way of being able to
keep on top of things.
Now, the 2 stroke exhaust section is written to be applicable to any 2 stroke
engine you are likely to come across, although the page is still at a bit of
a basic stage as I got sidetracked onto writing a guide for the real
beginners. Oh yes, now I have glanced back at the page I can see where I got
to...
Now.... all numbers are fixed as they relate mainly to geometric
relationships such as the diameter to the volume of a pie etc, so these do
not need to be changed.
What you need are the dimensions of the engine (bore/stroke/capacity of one
cylinder). ED is the duration the exhaust is open, as measure in crankshaft
degrees, TD is similar, but is the duration the transfer port is uncovered,
while 'C' is the tricky bit as it is the angle the piston will move through
before the 'plug' of exhaust gas returns to try and return. (hmmm I need to
alter something here on the page...)
Basically, you can calculate everything except H, but it is this where you
move from pen and paper to research and development. Without tremendous
computing power you are not going to be able to claculate all the required
dimensions for your exhaust. With a primary pipe, divergent cone, time
control length and stinger (the parallel tail pipe) manufactured you now need
a small range of funnel shaped test pieces you can attach and test the bike
with. This is the bit that needs a bit of dedication and is usually the point
people start heading off to buy an off the shelf item at Micron etc!
I need to think about the Jawa dual exit system - but whatever you will still
need only one cone system per cylinder, it is the parallel pipe bit that
needs consideration.
It is always good to get enquiries like this as it makes me think and I get a
better idea of how to present the data! Ho ho, what fun!

Trevor,
I am in possession of a vintage Honda motorcycle, and am interested in
obtaining as much information about it as possible. I
purchased it about 18 years ago, and at that time, was unaware of its
uniqueness. Unfortunately, the individual whom I purchased it
from is now deceased, and his wife doesn't remember much about the
motorcycle other than they bought it at an auto show in
Rochester, NY in 1963 or 1964. From what I can tell, it is a C105 55cc
single. I am hoping that you can either provide me with
some information on this particular model, or send me in the right
direction where I can do some research on this particular
motorcycle. I have attached some pictures of the motorcycle.
Thank you for all of your help.
Hi all,
I am removing my personal email address from most of my webpages and
putting on this one (wish I had thought about it earlier, there are so
many pages to update...) as I get quite a few mails which would be of
interest to the group. One guy has sent me some lovely shots of his
C105, the first I have ever seen of this model as they were uncommon
on my side of the pond.
If anyone does have interesting pictures they have scanned in, then
you can always load them up onto the Single Honda Singles Yahoo site
in the photos section.
Trevor
Hi all,
If any of you have anything for sale or are after anything then you
can visit the Small Honda Singles (SHS) egroup home on Yahoo and click
on 'Database'. You can review what is for sale on one database and
what people want on the second. If you want to add anything to either
then click on 'Add Record'. Remember to add your email address so that
people can contact you.
(and my thanks to the guy running the Super Cubs list for that idea)
For Sale and Wanted ads can also be added to the SHS website by
emailing me or this list, the latter being the better option as
everyone on the list can read it.
Trevor
Frans,
I will add your advert for the P25/P50's to the SHS website within the
next couple of days.
In the meantime I have added them to the new 'For Sale' and 'Wanted'
databases on the SHS egroup.

I'm a newly joined member and I am here because of the link that was
there at the Engine Theory site.Basically I'm an odball lover and
have been riding oddballs for a couple of years. I had a small Honda
as a child (can't remember its name or year of make) and learnt to
ride on it.
There are formulas in the engine theory page for a cone type of
exhaust. Is that formula applicable for any kind of two stroke engine
or has the author compiled it specifically for the Honda he had in
mind?
If it is possible could the author please explain to an amateur like
me how to use that formula . The ED, TD TD+C parts are confusing me.
Also what do I have to change if I use the formula for a single
cylinder dual exhaust engine (jawa). The figures that you have used
there in the formula are constant or do they have to be changed for
use on a different make and model.
As you can see I am confused hahaha. I loved all the cars and bikes
you have had. One of those cars looks like a mehari.

Hi all,
Quite a few people have written to me because they have a Honda but
don't know what model it is.
One easy way is to look at the engine number, and if it is a pre-1981
bike then at the frame number as well. The first set of letters and
number usually tell you the model, so a Honda C50 has an engine number
starting C50E-xxx, and for a pre-1981 bike the frame number starts
C50-xxxx.
Of course, there are always models that don't conform, particularly race
bikes and also when one model becomes transformed into a new model (as
with some early XL's).

I have done that, fuel flow is great, tank and carb bowl are clean...
it acts like the carb is out of adj, what are the adjustments
supposed to be on the carb,,, I set idle way up and it seems to help
somewhat, but the engine is running quite fast.

where is mechanical ignition advance and how do I check it?
Are their any online repair manuals, I called local book store and
they said haines repair manual for this model is out of printt...
thanks for any help.

I suggest taking the fuel pipe off the carburettor and making sure that fuel
flows freely when
you turn the tap on, you might find that taking apart the fuel tap on the fuel
tank to make sure
it is not blocked may be the answer.
Also make sure that the mechanical ignition advance isn't also seized.

I recently purchased a 1979 XL75 for my kid. It was pretty much together and
other than some frozen cables seems to be fine... I am having trouble
adjusting the carb however, have cleaned it but it is out of adjustment...

sounds like it is running lean to me. I am not a mechanic though.

That's the one with the engine as part of the rear wheel, isn't it. I
remember being offered a very dead and rusty one around 1990. If you can get
a silencer I imagine you will be very lucky. More likely is finding someone
to make you one out of sheet and tube steel.

Alan,
I came across what I suspect is a Brazilian site last night which had info on
the XL125S:
Overall length: 2090mm (84")
Overall/seat height: 1130mm (45")(not sure which, unless you know exactly
what 'Altura' translates as)
Distance between wheel centres: 1310mm (52")
Width: 850mm (34")
Dry weight: 105kg (231lb)

Hi Nick,
I don't suppose you have any manuals among all that stuff. Out here the
chance of coming across a manual for any of this is less likely than Santa
slipping a CT90 down my flats ventilation shaft... Currently I have my
genuine CF manual and the CB100/125 manual my brother sent from the attic of
his place in the UK.

Alan,
So am I looking for this data. As yet I have not had much chance to hunt up
data on the XL series of bikes as I have been working my way through the
Supercubs and various 1960's bikes. If I find the data I will let you know.

Hi anyone who has found this list. This list was set up at the beginning of
November 2001 to both support the Small Honda Singles website as well as find
a home for all those Honda owners who either have a bike which there are no
other lists for, or have several bikes, or for any other reason in the world
that someone may care to use to join. This list is to cover any subject
related to Small Honda Singles (SHS) that anyone cares to write about, and I
hope someone joins soon and releases me from being so sad as to only write
messages to myself.
The SHS website is designed to collect together all the kind of info someone
needs to keep a beloved Honda on, or near, the road or to modify one to meet
some desired goal. Unlike other sites it also has theory pages to back up the
'workshop manual' stuff it has on it so that you can learn something about
the machine you ride/plan to ride and hence make some intelligent decisions
based on reality instead of old wives tales.
The next update date for the SHS site is around Christmas, by which time I
estimate it will be getting on for double its present size. I still need
pictures of bikes, wiring diagrams, specifications etc, som if you think you
can help then feel free to write, even a tidily bit of help is worth it. All
pictures will, of course, have your name attached to them.
Have fun, and the website address at the Yahoo site, and hopefully soon to be
on the email as well, if I can work out how to do it.
Trevor
