Re: [Siddeley] Help! 18hp Limousine Brakes

Hello Ian and David - I was interested to see the discussion about grease coming
out of the front hubs.? I think that?the regular regreasing of the front hubs as
recommended by ASM is unnecessary nowadays with the advent of modern bearings
and greases.
I rebuilt the front suspension and hubs on my Whitley many many years ago (too
long ago to remember!). At the time I packed the new modern bearings about two
thirds full with good quality bearing grease and have never attempted? to push
more grease into them since then, and the hubs still spin noiselessly and
freely.? Proof of the pudding?? Over packing with grease can cause overheating
and thinning?of the grease.
Regards - John

Hi Ian

Sorry for the delay in replying. Have been away for few days and am now
suffering from inbox overload.

Having said all that sorry I cannot help as I also have no spares. Am still
trying to solve a hub grease problem on the left hand front which is
dropping well onto the shoe. The assembly looks the same on both sides but is
now having a serious problem on the quality of braking which hasbeen poor
even when everything looks good.

Otherwise the car is going well.

Kind regards
David

Hello folks

A bit of a long shot but does anyone have any 18hp Limousine brake shoes
kicking about?

Have checked mine and they need to go for re-lining which is not a problem
but takes about 4-5 days - loath to send them in case something goes wrong
and I don`t have anything to replace them with.

I`ve got plenty of standard 16/18 shoes but no spares for the limo.

If anyone can help please let me know

Many thanks Ian.
Plymouth.
