Papa is one of the founders, and was the leader and President of the
MMA and SMA for 15 years. It is an incredible achievement that he and
his family should be very proud of. Papa made many personal
sacrifices to do so, missed only a few meetings, and as far as I
know, missed no SMA events in all that time. He never quit: He simply
retired. There is and only will be one Papa Dave. No one should ever
forget the the good he has done through the SMA and MMA for the
citizens and communities throughout Siskiyou County. If anyone has
any doubts, they can look through the history books of the two
organizations and remove all doubt.
The founders and former officers and members of the SMA did many good
deeds during their tenures. And the current officers and members
intend to do the same, if not more. They are all good, decent,
honorable people, and they belong to the SMA because they care, and
want to continue the legacy of the Siskiyou Motorcycle Association.
As the current President, I will do my best to see that the SMA will
thrive and continue to operate as a non-profit public benefit
charitable corporation as originally intended by the founders: To to
help the less fortunate children, elderly, and distressed members of
our local communities; to promote friendships and camaraderie amongst
members; to build goodwill throughout the county; and for all members
to enjoy riding their motorcycles together as a group, and as friends.
I am not Papa, never will be, and will never try. I may manage the
SMA a little differently than he, and some things will change, but
only for the better, and in the best interest of the SMA, the members,
and those that are in need of our assistance.
It is all to easy to sit back and do nothing but watch and critique
others as they strive to do good things with good intentions to
improve the lives of those less fortunate. But the right, and
honorable thing to do is to join them in their journey, and support
them in their efforts as they go.
Sincerly,
Brent Rice
SMA President
