Hello from Canyon Lake,
I'm new to jeeping and am looking for places to go. My wife and I just returned from Big Bend with the jeep. Lot's of fun! We are looking for local trails and events for the novice.

Try Martins Auto outside loop 410 on Culebra if you are in that part of town. He has done some work on my jeep and has done really good let him know you are a Saje Member and I am sure he can give a Discount/

I would like to buy a Jeep which would be a fourth vehical for a two drvier family. The Jeep would need to be an auto (wifes requirement, my PU and sports car are standard, I love standards), 6 cy, AC, softtop. I'm going to try to stay close to the $5000 price range, since this is another exter.
My plan would be to drive on nice days with soft top off. In case wifes car goes down she would want the top on and AC or heater to work.
I would also like to be able to drive on very easy trails, noting to hard, just looking for adventures. Looking to join up with a group that knows how to do this type of thing. I go camping one weekend each month to state or national parks.
If you plan to do off-roading with the club, buy a Rubicon. If you also need to use the Jeep as a daily driver, avoid big lifts and other modifications that will increase maintenance and reduce road-worthiness.
Also, the 07-08 Rubicon has plenty of stock ground clearance, so unless you want to do trails that risk serious body damage, you need not lift or re-gear this model for the trails. I rented one in Colorado and will never try to modify another "lesser" Wrangler model.

Hi All,
New member to your group? I joined because I would like to buy my first Jeep.
Where is the best place to buy a used Jeep Wrangler in SA? What should I try to buy and what should I stay away from.

What are your plans for the jeep? trail use? daily driver?
How many passengers? How much do you want to spend? What model are
you leaning towards?
I have a 1983 CJ 7 project that was painted in the past so it looks
ok from a distance but the body has usual rust spots that can be
covered up by rock guards to look ok. The frame is good, no
rust, motor will start and run to load but is worn out, transfer is
good (dana 300),transmission works good in forward gears but won't go
into reverse very good. It should just need shifter parts. Narrow
track axles work fine. Also have chevy 3/4 ton parts that go with the
jeep to help with the rebuild that I have listed below. if you have
any more questions or need more pic's just email me and let me know.
it also has nice ricaro seats that I put in it. If you don't want the
chevy parts we can adjust the price.
350 Chevy rebuildable motor that was rebuilt and set with moisture in
it (the block needs to be honed and has flattop pistons) just needs
rings and bearings and the heads can be cleand up but are not the
good highperformance heads
TH 350 4x4 transmission
203 transfer case (jeep has the original 300 transfer case, in good
shape)
Dana 44 full size front axle
Full size 12 bolt rear axle.
I am asking $2500 obo.
call for more info. 580-465-7789

I have a SYE that I thought I was going to install myself, but have
changed my mind. Is there some place in the San Antonio area that
will install this for me?
Sold my 2003 Liberty and had to remove the lift system. To my
knowledge, these fit all Jeep Liberty years through 2007.
2.5" Rocky Road Budget Lift - $100
Rockrails (made from receiver hitch steel tubing) - $100
(5) BF Goodrich AT KO (245x75x16) with 40% tread, mounted on
16x8 Polished Aluminum ADR - Nitro wheels
(1.5" backspacing, 0 Offset) - $600
Pictures of the lift system, tires, and rockrails installed on my

wheeling. Do you guys mostly wheel all day Friday and Saturday?

Oops! Sorry about that. Usually when we have a Christmas party in
December, we don't have a business meeting. My error for the posting.
The rest of the calendar is correct. Please try to attend another
meeting.
You are correct. We are a Wheeling club, not a cyber club. Best way to get involved is to attend a meeting, join up and come along for all the fun. Many of the club will be in Las Cruces during our next meeting, but there will be one on the 19th at Chester's on Broadway, 7:30pm.
We will be at Las Cruces, but hope to meet you at the meeting in March or on the trail.
i live in new braunfels and have two jeep wranglers the extent of my offroading is at big shell. i was looking for a fun group to learn more and enjoy my jeep more. i found this group and it looks as if you all are really involved and have fun. do you all stay active and involved in your trips and meetings?

I have a 2004 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited with an automatic transmission.
The button on the side of the shifter stopped working so I took the
handle off and found a plastic rod going down the center of the shifter
shaft was broke in half. Has anyone else had this problem.
Thanks,
Jason
OK, was at Chester's tonight at 7:30 as advertised but no one else

First time to post here. My brother and I did a weekend with the club
at the Utopia lease a number of years ago. Had a great time.
My daily stock street driver, '97 Sport, ABS, 5 speed, has recent
rear-end troubles...a bent right drive axle that has damaged the
spider gears.
I'm wanting to replace the rear differential with a similar type. The
gears are 3.07. Would there be a spread of years that would bolt right
in? Possibly too, from a Cherokee or the like? Maybe someone here has
changed out their stock rear-end for a beefier one and has the stock
one in storage.
If you have one available, please email me.
Thanks for any help,
Randy

On my last trip to Colorado I got 18-19 mpg, but I was doing the speed limit. With 35 inch tires, I would go for the 4.56's. My tires are 285/65R16, so they are a little narrower than a 33X 12.50 which may make a difference.

4.56 were to low wiht 33s? I was thinking about swithing out my 3.73s for 4.56s, Was your MPG to low? righ tnow I am getting 12.5MPG average on a 2006 wrangerl X with 4 inch lift 33X10.50 on stocck rims. I do mostly city driving very little highway and was thinking the 4.56 might giver alittle better milage with alot of stop and go traffic and if I ever want to go to 35s I wouldn't have to switch out gears. I have had my jeep over a year now and oly have 7,000 miles on it that tells you how much highway driving I do.
3" lift (with swaybar disconnects) and 33's (M/T's) are a great combo for everyday use. I'm sure that many will disagree with my conservative position, but my own personal experience suggests a host of trade-offs associated with going bigger than that.
And even with 33's, you may find it necessary to change the ring and pinions to something like 4.11 if your Unltd is not a Rubicon.
Friends who've gone the 35" route on a daily driver have typically worn-out drivetrain components on the street and broken axle shafts on the trail.
With 33's I had none of the above mentioned ills. I did run 4.56 gears, which I found to be too much on the highway, so I'd stick with the 4.11-type gearing. (I found stock gearing to be insufficient to maintain speed on hills and overpasses without a lot of annoying downshifting (with a 5-speed trans.)

Like you I drove very little on the highway so I didn't really care about mileage. (Less than 20K miles in 4 years.) The Jeep would go like hell off the line with the 4.56's, but just turned to many rpm's on the highway for my taste.
I think you are correct in that the 4.56's would be better suited to 35's, so if you think you might go that direction and highway
rpm's don't bother you, I'd say go for it. --- Brandon Wingfield <bwannon@yahoo.com> wrote:
