3" lift (with swaybar disconnects) and 33's (M/T's)
are a great combo for everyday use. I'm sure that
many will disagree with my conservative position, but
my own personal experience suggests a host of
trade-offs associated with going bigger than that.
And even with 33's, you may find it necessary to
change the ring and pinions to something like 4.11 if
your Unltd is not a Rubicon.
Friends who've gone the 35" route on a daily driver
have typically worn-out drivetrain components on the
street and broken axle shafts on the trail.
With 33's I had none of the above mentioned ills. I
did run 4.56 gears, which I found to be too much on
the highway, so I'd stick with the 4.11-type gearing.
(I found stock gearing to be insufficient to maintain
speed on hills and overpasses without a lot of
annoying downshifting (with a 5-speed trans.)
