HI friends fans , RE riders, Dyno Dan here!
I am pleased to say that the DRS Cycle team was able to present a
pair of motorcycles that for sure looked the part and then perforned
as the finely tuned race bikes that they are. The over all consensus
was the bikes were a real attention getter. The race event became
compressed as we lost two days from Event scheduling conflicts , one
day to rain and a short day due to tragedy, another delay due to
crash and wiping out the timing lights. We ran the Bonneville bike as
a experiment on its first run and only went down one jet size . With
the elevation change and the resulting density altitude as well as
the new race gas, we were sick rich and the bike would not pull fifth
gear. We proceded to go down incrementally and had went down I think
three jet sizes when we completed a qualifying run and so we chose to
go to impound and get the engine sealed. What I was not aware of is
that once you seal it you cannot change it. We would of liked to go
down another jet size as it was still two rich. We/Mark Brownlee were
able to go 102 both ways and it was a unoffical record in the gas
class. We accepted this as a stepping stone and moved to the
roadracer, Phil jetted the roadracer based upon the experience we
gained with the bonne bike (Note we were conservative on the bonne as
we did not want to seize it on the first run),the roadracer was
nearly spot on and was able to run 110 to qualify and the proving run
was 108mph for a unofficial average of 109mph. We in fact qualified
on this bike as a AHRMA participant and we/Johnny Szoldrak set a
simultaneous one way record of 110mph and this I beleive is official,
or soon will be. In the process we switched the Bonne bike over to
fuel and installed the nitrous bottle and c16 fuel, we had rejetted
again and made it to the starting line , we were on the line with
engine running when the accident on the long course shut the event
down. We resumed on the following morning which was Friday as I
remember and the course had numerous delays, we were pressed for time
and once the timing lights were knocked out we chose to surrender our
fuel attempt and go to tech for the tear down. Each bike has to be
torn down so the displacement can be checked and the clock was
ticking. I made the call and we chose to take our records as they
stood and complete the tech checks . All in all we had a very
successful meet and the weather was better than expected and we had a
good time. On behalf of the DRS TEAM I want to Thank one and all who
contributed in any way in making this effort possible. I am
personally thanking you the contributors as we could not have done it
without the support. Thanks/ From Dyno Dan Holmes and the DRS TEAM,
Mark , Johnnie, Glen, Phil , Roger, Ron, Ed, Nathan , Jason ,Kevin ,
and the CMA team Bob, Morgan, Frank, Sally and Mary Ann!
