Scott Dollus of the USFS has advised us that they intend to issue an
emergency closure of the Rampart trail system to motorized vehicles,
effective Friday, March 30th, 2007.
The concern is that the trails are so wet and muddy that motorized
use is causing excessive rutting and erosion. The heavy rutting
increases the likelihood that users may try to find alternate routes
around the bad areas and cause still further resource damage. Rather
than allowing the use to continue and requiring a lot of extra work
and expense to repair the damage later, the area will be closed down
temporarily to give it a chance to dry out.
In connection with this trail closure, the gates to Rampart Range
Road will also remain closed.
Please observe the closings a respect the area to preserve your
riding opportunities.
More information will be posted here as it becomes available. As
always, you can contact the USFS at (303) 275-5610 to get the most up
to date information.
