Re: [RVbasics] US 50

Hi Burt,
haven't don the whole trip either. but back in the mid 70's took it from North Vernon,IN   out to colorado. then hadto go north to montana. first duty station in the service. i spent my young years in n.vernon. i enjoyed the trip. but back then, it was mainly smalltown america all the way. didn't have to worry about finding gas, food, services, etc. back when the military traveled in uniform. everyone you met was happy to help you find  whatever you needed. it is still called the "loneliest" highway. large stretches of open ground between towns.
now i live in nevada. but we go up to Ely, nv often. US 50 runs right thru downtown. there are several rv parks at the edge of town. there are a lot of short side trips of interest from there. the "Hotel Nevada" will let you overnite in the parking lot behind the hotel. they also have great food. not pricey. across the street, the"Jailhouse" has dining in the original cells of the old days. but kinda pricy. you can go pick up garnets off the ground at "Garnet Hill" hust 5 miles west of ely. can't take rig up the hill though. small parking at the top. no place for anything large to turn around. it's free. we go there every time we're up there. pick up a handfull or two. the lobby of the hotel nevada has all the maps and brochures of everything within 100miles.

This looks interesting, anyone ever try it?
It goes coast to coast, like Route 66?
