Hey all,

I don't think I can make it this year, but I wanted to let everyone know about
this awesome poker run. It's to benefit Wolf Haven International, down in
Tenino. They do alot of wonderful work with and for wolves. I went on this run
a couple of years ago and had a great time. One of the stops was at Wolf Haven
itself, were participants were treated to a special tour not usually open to
visitors. Breakfast was good and so was the closing party at the end of the
run. If you get a chance, check it out.

http://www.wolfhaven.org/pokerRun.php

Saturday, September 12, 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Party 3:00 - 5:00

Ride starts at the Mason County Fair Grounds in Shelton with breakfast
Ride ends at the Lucky Eagle Casino where the party will take place

Have fun!

in June after taking a class at the PNW Motorcycle Safety school.) I have been
riding with my husband but look forward to riding with other women.

If you want to ride on the 4th, (and you are in the area) I'm doing this great ride again that I did last year with a couple of gals (and guy, but he had to leave half way through for work) taking back roads all the way up  from Redmond to Birch Bay/Blaine. We'll have dinner in Birch Bay, with a lunch stop in Bow-Edison, then head down I-5 to catch all the firework shows all along the way. With your own soundtrack playing you can't ask for a much better way to watch the fireworks!

Meeting at 10am (7/4).  Be gassed up and ready to go at 10:15am.

Location: Las Margaritas, 17106 Redmond Way

Plan on being back in the Redmond/Seattle area around 10pm.

If you'd like to meet along the way, let me know where and we'll try to sync the timing. Probably get to Bow-Edison around 2:30-3pm if all goes well.

See route and more details at: http://www.meetup.com/WWLadyRiders/calendar/10469135

What a spectacular ride last year.  Hope it will be just a great this year.

Hey gals,
We are doing a ride to the most Northwestern corner of the Continental United States.  I did this ride a few years ago with PNW Road Riders and had a blast.  And the Hood Canal Bridge is now open! We have meeting points at the Edmonds Ferry, at the Poodle Dog in Fife and Port Ludlow. We'll take a scenic route through Port Ludlow and Port Hadlock, then cut over to Port Discovery and ride the 101 briefly to Sequim ride the Dungeness Loop then jump back on the 101 to 112 to Neah Bay, rising some twisties courtesy of Destination Highways.

The plan is to leave together but technically be groups of 4 to enjoy the ride that much better.  Currently 12 are signed up.  It'll be an all day ride.

Hi All,
Ann from OT on the Peninsula just invited me to introduce myself and Western
Washington Women Riders Meetup group on that forum and would like to do the same
here, since I just recently joined both boards. WWLR hopes to supplement other
women riding groups with more ride ideas and be a place you can find rides and
events across Western WA for all sorts of groups in one place.

A bit about me: I started riding in 1992, getting my first bike (250 Yamaha XS
Special) while I was teaching English in Japan. Since then I've ridden a bike
with a kick start, sport bike and now on my 5th bike.

I started riding in groups in 2003 on the Zion Riders Brothers Ride from Seattle
to Portland with 100+ bikes. From that ride I started hanging out with the
Magic Wheels, Brothers and Sisters of the Sun and many more, including join
online groups like the PNW RoadRiders and Throttle Jockettes.

Though I've done a couple of al women rides with the TJs and via meetup, it was
only 3-5 of us. But that changed on May 1st for the Female Ride Day. It was so
cool to be with 30 other women bikers and the attention we got especially after
they found out we were all women. HA!

After that, a group from the South Sound Riders Meetup Group decided to start
their own meetup group, but instead of limiting it to the South End we expanded
it to all of Western WA (with hopes of making statewide of for the PNW). Now we
have members from Vancouver WA to Vancouver BC, extending from the Peninsula to
the Cascades. Being on several groups and posting rides for all, I thought it
would be nice to have a somewhat centralized location for women to find rides
and events and cross-posting is highly encouraged. Not only that but we want to
empower women riders, passengers and soon-to-be-riders. If our ride isn't women
only it's lead by women. We are getting sponsors and get shops to have more
women-centric events. We are even planning a conference for next year's Women
Rider's Month.

Since the group was created on May 21st, we've had 9 events including
Educational and Tech nights, newbie to advanced rides from Tacoma to Marblemount
to Seabeck. And we have at least 9 more rides/events planned for the rest of the
month.

This week we have an event almost every day:

Tomorrow I'm leading a Novice+ ride to Snoqualmie Falls to help new riders learn
from more experienced riders because practice makes perfect.

Monday is the Annual Ride to Work Day

Tue I'm leading a Suburban Exploration Ride

Wed one of our members is heading to CA for a festival and is inviting others to
join her and there's the Backfire Moto Night

Thu is the first WWLR meeting which you are all invited to attend, you can
arrive at any time since we'll socialize long after 'business' is taken care of

Sun I'm leading a ride to Neah Bay, well I hope if Ann can make it she can lead
so we get there without turning around a couple of times. LOL. It's all good.

As you can tell we are really active. I hope to have more rides on the
Peninsula, and we have rides ideas to head to OR, do the Cascade Loop, Olympic
Peninsula Loop, Mt St Helens, Whidbey Island Loop and to visit mystery places
like the Mima Mounds and Gravity Hill in Prosser WA, not to mention the
festivals this summer and beyond.
Okay, I think my post is long enough. You'd like I was Stephen King getting
paid by the word. Ha. Anyway hope to have you participate. As you can tell I
don't think you can be in too many groups. :)

Ride Safe!

Hi WOW ! I'm from Anacortes, WA, USA

A little about me then an invite to www.toyrunbeforetherains.com -

Been riding since 1982, started in Texas, could ride year round, on an
'80 Honda 400...good bike.
Now have '82 Honda 500, with the heads tore off and being worked on, a
Honda Rebel (250) - lot of fun on that one, good for around town, and
hubby just traded an exterior paint job for a 1978 Custom Yamaha with
hand controls. Yes, it is hubby's and I have only ridden it once, but
since I bought him the Rebel, eventually he will move on to bigger and
better things and I'll inherit that, too, lol. It is a fast puppy!

Have had a Yamaha 650, copy of the Bonneville Triumph, really loved
that bike, except for the kick start (no push button)...AND...have had
another Honda 500, and two (2) Honda 750's (they are just a little bit
too tall for me and my 30-inch inseam).

I do have a Harley, but he is in jail right now (figured the only way
I'd ever get a Harley was to name one of my kids Harley - probably not
my smartest move). It has been prophesied that I will one day have a
white Harley, so I have my mind thinking about that now...hey, a girl
can dream.

Now, what I am having fun at right now:
The Anacortes Elks #1204 is sponsoring the TOY RUN BEFORE THE RAINS, a
benefit for the Salvation Army, Pregnancy Choices and Lydia Place (a
domestic violence shelter in Bellingham, WA). We are putting up toy
boxes all over Skagit and Whatcom counties and we are seeking
donations of money, new toys, and prizes for the raffle.

AND we will have food, a 7-stop poker ride with hi-low winners, a
raffle and we are looking for a great band to help us out - we will
have entertainment. Bring a toy, get an extra poker card!!!

IF YOU REGISTER AT THE OYSTER RUN (This Sunday, September 28) at the
Elks on 7th Street just west of Commercial, you will save $5.00 per
person/per bike, or per car (yes, we are allowing cars on this run, so
families can participate and in case it rains...it is Washington).

So if you are in the Pacific Northwest and want to have a fun
two-county ride, please come join us. We are also taking donations at
the following address:
Anacortes Elks #1204 - TOY RUN BEFORE THE RAINS
1009 - 7th Street, Anacortes, WA 98221

You can write me for more info, beadnest@..., or see the website:
www.toyrunbeforetherains.com
If you donate anything, you will get mention at the website, at the
Oyster Run, and at the Toy Run, and we and many other people will be
eternally grateful for your help.

COME AND ENJOY!!! We hope to see you there! PASS IT ON!

Hi ladies,

Not much action here so thought I'd just post a reminder that our WOW
chapter is still going strong and doing lots of rides and activities.
You are welcome to join in the fun anytime.

Check our calendar on the website www.olympicthunder.com for upcoming
events, and our forum
http://forums.delphiforums.com/olympicthunder/start for details. If
you need help navigating the forum click on Frances (olallawitch) or
myself (annoramma) in the visitors section on the lower left and send

spontaneous rides!

There is also a WOW chapter based in Auburn, Westside Girls. Contact

Hey all!

So as Mary mentioned in her post, she and I are stepping down from any
leadership duties of RCR. Last night at the meeting, there were no
takers on these duties. We brainstormed on where we could go from here
and what we came up with was having RCR go forward as this yahoo
newsgroup, and be more of a bulletin board, a place to post rides, ask
questions, and meet other riders in the Seattle area. For now I can
manage the newsgroup, but would prefer to hand it off in the not too
distant future to someone else.
Is there someone out there who couldn't make last night's meeting who
would is interested in leading RCR or in running the newsgroup?

There is interest in continuing to get together once a month for an
informal evening meal (kind of like we did last night) just to talk
riding and plan rides, etc. Unless someone suggests a different
location and schedule, we will keep it at Claire's every second Tuesday.

Last night we met new members Rischa and her daughter Maxine. Thanks
for coming out! It was so great to meet you both!

The weather people are predicting a wonderful weekend coming up...
anyone going riding? You can always post your rides here and get some
company on the road!

Safe riding!

Not to much to report other than Mary and I had a lovely dinner
together. :)

This month, the Lime Run is on Sunday, April 27. I believe Shelly
was going to organize this one again this year. She will send out
the details, but last year we met up at the rest area off I-5 just
past exit 206, then headed up to Sedro Wooley together. Shelly,
please post the details. Please let her know if you intend to join
in!

Currently there is nothing on the calendar for May, so it is WIDE
OPEN for people to captain and/or suggest rides! Step right up!
Could be a good time to go to Sequim or something like that! Love
that rain shadow!

I just wanted to send out more kudos to Lisa at Seattle Cycle Center
on Aurora Ave. I went in the shop last weekend because I was having
issues with the pants I bought there a year or two ago, and she went
above and beyond to help me out. They are really good to women
riders there, so check it ou t sometime if you haven't been there
already!

Lisa Douglass and I took the motorcycle maintenance course at Lake
Washinton Technical College this past winter. The guy who taught the
course, Dave Rookaird, is the service manager at Eastside Motorsports
where they specialize in Suzuki, Yamaha and Ducati. I have not had
any work done there personally, but after learning from Dave for 3
months, I think he is a really straight forward guy, and that those
who are looking for a shop might want to consider Eastside. Not sure
on other makes, though. Call ahead.

Anyone riding yet? I hear this weekend is supposed to be AWESOME!
Rev 'em up, Ladies!

Beth

Hmmm.  I don't remember volunteering to do the Lime Run for 2008, BUT I don't mind.

As follows: IF the weather is reasonably dry. . . We will meet at  8:00 a.m. at the REST STOP north of Marysville. It is the rest stop just after exit 206.  We will meet at the far side of the parking lot.  We will wait only about 5-10 minutes before leaving, so arrive promptly. :-)  We WILL stop for fuel just before we get to where the ride leaves from in Burlington.  Actually, it's the Burlington Eagles club.  They have a nice breakfast for $5.00.  The proceeds from the registration go to the Make A Wish Foundation. There will be prizes too.

I will NOT be there if it is raining more than a light mist, snowing or some other nasty weather front.

This is really a nice ride for a good cause. May not be a good choice for a brand new rider, but it's always been fairly easy and fun all the years I've ridden it.

Hope to see you there.

Shelly

Subj: [RCR] Meeting Minutes from Tuesday, April 8th

I should have mentioned this in the first place.  Last year I lowered my bike 2 or 3 inches to accommodate my short stature.  Now the bike stands practically straight up so it's possible for it to fall over with a heavy breeze.

Why do you need to shorten the kickstand? I have a very heavy bike and I can still lift it by turning the wheel hard right and leaning into it. Just don’t park it on a hill with the left side down…. My 2 cents

WOW! In the 18 years I've ridden, I've never heard of shortening the kickstand, so my first thought is why would you want to shorten it?                                                       I also wonder if shortening it, might compromise the stability of the bike when the kickstand is put down?                                                                        nbsp;                          However, I certainly do not know everything there is to know, or I would have heard about this already. :-)  I would suggest going to a professional motorcycle mechanic.                                                                                                                  &nbp;               I really recommend Gervasi's Motorsports. They are VERY honest and the owner only hires mechanics with lots of experience. Ask for Rick Gervasi, who is the owner and tell him Shelly referred you. Their number is 425-259-6875.  Or you can email them at www.gervasismotorsports.com.                                                                Good luck and I hope this helps you.

I need to get my kickstand shortened but I don't know how much to tell
the guy to take off. Does anyone know how many degrees the bike is
supposed to lean? Also, does it matter how much the bike weighs?

Thanks girls...I'm gettin' ready to ride!
