Welcome to the R90sWorldnet.
This group is for devotees of the BMW motorcycle model, R90S, which was produced exclusively from model years 1974 to 1976.
Come join this group, and among other things, learn why the R90S is arguably the most significant post war BMW motorcycle model.
The photo to the right, on the cover of the book "BMW R90S" by Ian Falloon, is of Mac Kirkpatrick riding his R90S. Mac started this discussion group, the R90sWorldnet in 2000 and it has grown to over 900 members worldwide.
Here is how the photo to the right came to be:
The photo to the right was taken in early 1998 as part of a BMW of North America photo shoot for the then new R1100S press kit that was released at the introduction of the R1100S; BMW wanted to have a connection between the new sporty R1100S and the R90S.
Mac Kirkpatrick had offered to Rob Mitchell, then the Product Communications Manager for BMW NA, to take pictures of his R90S, so with a friend, Mac trailered one of his 1975 R90Ss to BMW's headquarters in Montvale, NJ and BMW had a professional photographer named Greg Jarem take photos of Mac riding his R90S. Photos were solo of the R90S as the one is to the right, and photos were also taken of the R1100S alongside the R90S on the road. Rob Mitchell rode the R1100S and Mac rode his R90S, and they followed the photographer who was leaning out of the rear of his station wagon as Rob and Mac followed him closely. A friend of Mac's drove the photographer's car.
Only when the photo shoot was to begin did Rob roll the R1100S out from a hidden spot behind the BMW building as this bike had not been seen by the public yet and it was much anticipated.
Mac offered to Ian Falloon, the author of the book to the right, the use of many photos of his R90Ss (by Jeff Whitlock), and Ian used many of Mac's R90S photos in the book "BMW R90S". One of these photos is of Mac riding his R90S for the cover of the book.
