To be fair, the 17" wheels are said, or at least claimed, to offer
significant improvements in handling generally, in cornering and in grip.
Since they place quite a lot more rubber in contact with the road, the claim
is plausible.

You can of course have an entirely separate debate about whether the Prius
really needs such improvements or not.
