I have heard good things about 5Starshine from someone who tried it.
I am considering using it this spring.

Hi, Jeanne.
Is it a refundable deposit? If so, you should just have to ask them to take you
off their list
and give the money back. Just tell them what happened. If they seem worried
about
getting stuck with the car, you could offer to post it when it comes in, and
they should be
prepared for a LOT of phone calls.

For now, you would have to be a member of the 2004-Prius yahoogroup
in order to access the message archives there. The message archives
of that group appear to be set to be members-only.
There is a setting that the owner/moderator of a yahoogroup can
change, which can allow anyone to read the group's messages, but that
only members may post to the group. (an example of such a group is
the toyota-prius list.) That way, you're not forced to join the
group if you just want to see what's going on there. Also, it allows
the group's messages to be spanned by various online search engines
(like Google) and archived there.
[note to moderator: I originally posted this in the other Prius group
as a reply to an earlier thread about European deliveries. Please
feel free to drop this if you judge it to be inappropriate]
Here in Luxembourg, the Prius was finally on sale during the "Auto-
Festival" in the first half of February. Price 25665 euros including
VAT. Only 2 options are additional (metallic paint 385 euros,
navigation 2385 euros), everything else is included.
The dealer offered to take an order for May delivery. No discounts,
but 5 years free servicing. He said they were selling well - I
haven't been back to ask what the delivery would be now.
The price may seem high by US standards but it should be remembered
that (a) these prices include 15% "value-added tax" (a kind of sales
tax) (b) many features which are options in the US are part of the
base model here and (c) the euro-dollar exchange rate has shifted
hugely in favour of the euro lately, so everything here (wages,
prices, GDP...) comes out much higher in relation to the dollar.
Relative to the price of other cars of comparable size - eg a Toyota
Avensis or a Passat - the price of a Prius is not outrageous.
I'm hoping to get a test drive but I haven't asked yet - I suspect
the local dealer only has the one showroom car for the time being.
I'm interested to know if anybody here has already received their
Prius.
I'm also interested in seeing a picture of a black one - every other
colour is plentifully illustrated on the web, but I've never seen a
photograph of a black one.

Dear All
Now that you all have your EV buttons, or will shortly be installing
them, I thought you might like to have a copy of the Toyota Manual
section on the EV button, previously posted elsewhere:
The following is a complete transcript (whew!) from the UK owners
manual EV section: [PLEASE TRIM ANY RESPONSES!]:
In the "EV" drive mode, your vehicle runs like an electric vehicle,
only using the electric motor driven via electricity which is stored
in the hybrid vehicle battery. This mode is suitable for driving in
residential areas in the early morning or in the middle of the night
or in the covered parking lot because you do not have to worry about
noise or exhaust gases.
Press the switch to turn on the electric motor power manually.
The indicator light in the instrument cluster comes on. Pressing the
switch again will turn off this function and the indicator light.
Caution! The driver should pay full attentin around the vehicle
especially when it is driven only by the electric motor (with the
gasoline engine stopped). People in the immediate area might misjudge
the hybrid vehicle movement based on the absence of the regular
engine noise.
In the following conditions, the "EV" drive mode may not be turned
on. In this case, the message appears I the multi-information display
and a beep sounds.
-The hybrid system gets hot. (after the vehicle is left in hot
weather, after driving on the slopes or high speed driving etc.)
-The hybrid system gets cold. (After the vehicle has long been left
below 0oC (32oF).)
-During gasoline engine warm up
-The hybrid vehicle battery assembly charging level is 3 or lower.
-The vehicle speed is about 45 km/h (28 mph) or over
-The accelerator pedal is depressed strongly or on the slopes.
-The defroster is in use
Turning on in cold weather
When the engine is cold (for example early morning), it will start
warming up about 10 seconds after the READY light comes on. During
the warming up, the EV drive mode cannot be turned on. (The time
before the engine starting varies depending on the temperature, air
conditioning condition, etc.) To use the EV drive mode, press the
switch before the engine starts.
In the following conditions, the "EV" drive mode may be automatically
cancelled whilst driving. In this case, a beep sounds and the "EV"
drive mode indicator light flashes three times and then goes out.
-The hybrid vehicle battery assembly charging level is 2 or lower.
-The vehicle speed exceeds about 45 km/h (28 mph).
-The accelerator pedal is depressed strongly or on the slopes.
Although the available driving range differs depending on factors
such as the hybrid vehicle charging level or air conditioning
condition, it usually ranges from about several hundred metres to 2
km (about ˝ mile or less) when the vehicle speed is leth than about
km/h (28 mph).
As your vehicle is designed to have the best fuel economy during
normal driving (driving in the combination of gasoline engine and
electric motor power), frequent use of the "EV" drive mode may worsen
fuel economy.
Ends…

Hi, Sharon, and welcome.
To access the archives, you will still have to go to the other group. My
understanding is
that Tom, ghe guy who started this list, knows someone who has archived the
entire other
list. They are looking for a way to make that searchable, and post it somewhere.
Perhaps,
in its new form, it will be easier to to... maybe search the whole thing at once
instead of a
couple hundred posts at a time. At least the archives are safe somewhere, in
case Yahoo
pulls the plug on the old list.

Hi, I am just moving over if this is going to be the new list.
My first question: how do we access archives from the prius 2004
group? (other than going to that group).
Glad you guys took control of the problem.

I think they moderate the FIRST post. After that you can post as much
as you want.

The posts are only moderated for new members. As soon as one of the moderators
sees
that you are a real person, you are no longer moderated. For example, right now
you are
free to post at will.
It's being done this way to keep the spammers at bay.
As there gets to be more moderators, all of this will happen more quickly.

Someone got to post a Prius picture asap for the home page. A better
introduction would help as well, especially when newbies start
searching for Prius groups. Good luck, this is going to be tough to
pull off.
First off, thanks to all who have posted on this forum and 2004-prius
for useful information.
I had been on the waiting list at Pedersen Toyota in Ft. Collins, CO
for a month; after reading all the posts about better luck with
small-town dealers, I started calling around. A little dealer in the
little town of Laramie, WY (home of Univ. of Wyoming, but not much
else) said they had a Seaside Pearl #9 coming in next week on no
order, and I grabbed it! Now, they said that they only get a Prius
every other month or so, so luck has to have big part in this
car-searching method. I should be picking it up on Saturday.
Now, my dilemma: after getting the car, I'm going to need to get my
deposit back from Pedersen Toyota. Does anyone have any suggestions
on what to say to make this less painful?
Thanks!
Jeanne Dorweiler
Seaside Pearl #9 in 6 more days!
Hi. I think it will be nice to have a properly moderated group now.
Hopefully the amount of SPAM will decrease and we can have our discussions
without wading through all the junk.
My interest in the group is to glean information about the Prius for my own
use, and to offer suggestions and answers as I can. I have only had my
Prius for a little over 1 week, so I am not a "senior" member/user...yet!
I think a few ground rules, other than the ones already proposed might be as
follows:
1) Always trim your _replies_ by removing all the Yahoo stuff and all but
the most recent message.
2) When composing any message, always include a short signature block. I
have done mine along the lines of what others have done and are doing now.
Hope you all have a great weekend.
Mark (Dale City, VA, '04 Tideland Pearl #9)
I've used Nu-Finish on all my cars in the last several years
and have been happy with the finish. Granted, I use my
cars every day; they are not show cars. Those who display
their cars in shows may use something different and more
expensive, but you can't beat Nu-Finish on price and
durability, if you take the time to use it at least twice a year.
I also use Rain-X on the front and rear windows of all my
cars and hardly ever use the wipers when it rains. Again,
you have to do it every couple of months, but the stuff
works.

I'm sure this has been addressed somewhere, but what is the best way to
clean the screen? I have an eyeglass cloth but it still left
fingerprints.
Has anyone waxed their new car? If yes, what wax did you use or would
suggest? I read about 5 Star Shine, but don't want to get it unless I
hear more about it.

Hey, welcome Jeff!
That's a beutiful car! Tideland is what I'm waiting for. Great web page, by
the way! You
have lots of cool links!
Bill
Good morning. Thanks for setting this up. I think it is a great idea.
On another subject, I picked up my car on Thursday from Dianne at
Carson Toyota. I am loving it. There is still so much to learn. I
haven't even started learning how to use the navigation system yet. I
am enjoying watching the consumption screen. So far, it is reading 48
mpg. No bad for a brand new car!

Thanks, Craig, and welcome.
It's a good idea so they know this group is here. The intent isn't to steal any
members
from their excellent groups, but it's good to let them know in case they are
using our files
or archives as a resource.

Just wanted to say a big WELCOME to the new members here!
Feel free to drop a note to the group and introduce yourselves. You might
mention what
your interest is in the Prius.
Sending a post will help us to get you all set up in the group. If your post
doesn't go
through right away, don't worry. One of the moderators will clear it quickly,
and clear you
for regular posting. We have to do this to keep the spammers out.
If your post does go through right away, it means we recognized you from the
other group
and you are cleared already.
Again, WELCOME!!!

You should place this transfer message on the other Prius groups as
well. They don't all belong to the 2004-prius group.

Thanks for your reply, Tom. I think I'll report that to Yahoo! At
least with this new Discussion Board, the "Photos" section will be
working!

The possible settings:
Members (members can access
Database feature)
Limited (members can
view data; moderators can create/modify/delete tables)
Moderators only
(create/modify/delete tables)
Off (no one can
access the Database feature)
Stupid way to set up the db edits, but that's the way they do it :-/
You might want to try running through the maze of Yahoo Help and report
this as a problem. I agree that a 5th choice is needed, "Members can
create/modify only their own table entries".
I can set it to "Limited", but that would severely hamper setting
up/adding to dbs.

entries? Right now, it looks as though I can edit everyone's entry,
and I obviously wouldn't want or need to do that...just my own.
Thanks for getting a new discussion board started!

Those of you that have joined before I added this to the Welcome message
(just added it a few min ago):
NOTE: To avoid issues with spammers, your first message to the list
will be moderated. Once that message is approved, you will be free to
post directly in the future. This will hopefull stop the "drive-by
spammers" from polluting the list.
Hopefully once we have enough moderators, your first posts will be
moderated and posted quickly.

Peter,
I put mine on the lower hatch window, far right. From what I can
remember, that's actually where it belongs ;-)
The nice thing is that the border around that lower window is so wide
that the sticker barely covers any glass you can see through.
Well this hopefully will be a better forum that the old 2004 group!
