Conditions on the ground factor in. Reasonable acceleration through a turn over
a painted cross walk results in TC kicking in. Yes, one can creep through the
turn, but at regular speeds it kicks in. Accelerating across a smooth metal
plate results in TC kicking in. It would be nice to be able to choose when to
have it engaged.
> VSC control is something I haven't experienced yet.
It is great. On corners where there is a safe space to do so, I have taken
corners at more than enough speed to cause trouble to cars without it. VSC works
great to keep the car from spining out. Love it. Works in wet weather too. The
one time I took it a corner too fast in the rain, I slid over into the opposing
lane, but there wasn't oncoming traffic (I checked first), but the VSC kept the
car from spinning, it slid sideways and I was able to maintain control and get
back into the lane and proceed.
> And that's more than you can say for anti-lock brakes.
On a downhill that has a dip, if I have my foot on the brake to slow down, the
ALB kicks in, so I have learned to not put my foot on the brake at that
location. Same for oil on the ground or smooth metal plates. I have slammed them
on (in a safe location) in snowy conditions as a test, and they do work great.
Is there an easy way to turn off the traction control on the Prius? Coming to work this morning the darn thing tried to kill me. It was pretty agressive at...
You're preaching to the choir. I didn't even know it had it until (in the middle of winter on an icey day) I pulled out in front of a truck and then slammed...

You two are talking about two different things: Traction Control (which just cuts power) and Vehicle Stability Control (which selectively brakes as well). ...
Beg to differ Gary; I am not an aggressive driver. To attest to this fact, I have only just had my brakes replaced for the first time at 126K miles (I presume...

... That sounds like my experience with cruise control on wet pavement (not in my Prius, and not repeated). You did not mention cruise control, so I assume you...
... Nope, cruise was not on. I was slowing as it was because I know that stretch is nasty when wet. You are correct, cruise can get ugly in the wet. I knew...

... I agree with Gary that traction control is not your issue. I've never felt traction control hit the brakes in my car. It cuts engine power, instead....
