Picked up my 3G Prius last week and within a couple of hours of driving the
engine had developed a serious misfire which caused the check engine light to
come on. My dealer found that the number two cylinder was the source of the
problem. Investigation disclosed that the sparkplug base was completely rusted
and there was some rust on the fuel injector as well. Also, the coil was faulty
with water found in the electrical connector. It is my understanding that these
three components were exposed to a source of water at some point after the
engine was assembled and this caused the trouble. There was no sign of water
contamination to the other three cylinders. The dealer is submitting a report to
Toyota of their findings. The worst part is that I have been without my new
Prius for several days as a new coil is not readily available. However, my
dealer returned my 2G Prius so that I have transportation until the coil
arrives.
I cannot say enough good things about Uebelhor Toyota in Jasper, Indiana. If you
want to buy a Toyota without the high pressure sales tactics of a big city
dealer this is the place to go. Their sales force is a friendly group of folks
who will help you find the car you want and will not insult your intelligence in
the process. Their shop is manned by skilled mechanics and they keep you fully
apprised of the status of your car as they work upon it. I bypass the local
Toyota dealer and drive 85 miles to do business with Uebelhor Toyota. What else
can I say about my opinion of this South Central Indiana Toyota dealer.
