disabling traction control   Message List

I know some might consider this taboo but I need to ask anyway. I seem
to remember on some website directions for disabling the traction
control. We live in snowy mountainous conditions and we really miss
being able to gun it and peel out up a long hill, without the car
preventing itself from spinning tires. In fact, many times when the
wheels spin they eat through the show and ice down to the dirt or
gravel. I'm familiar with the "flooring it" technique but on long steep
grades where momentum is lost, Traction Control is no use. Does anyone
know how do disengage it? A friend has a new Subaru and has the same
problem. Some cars have a switch, which would have been great!

I frequently "step on it" to see if the wheels will spin. This seems like a reasonable way to determine how slippery it is. If the light comes on with just...
