It seems that we have a lot of new scooter riders. I am wondering if our group would be interested in having an informal seminar/demonstration on basics of scootering?
I guess you could say this would be for the beginner or new owner of a scooter. There are several defensive driving courses you can take in place of taking the written and practicum motorcycle driving test for your license. Most of those cost about $150 and up to take.
I would just pose the question, would we have some club members that would like to share some tips for scootering, riding in a group and address some safety issues as well as general ABC of operating your scooter?
Just reply back to REPY ALL so everyone can see the general consensus.

Hello group,
I wanted to pass along some info regarding scooters in the news. Channel 9
was out here at my work and did a piece with me about riding scooters, gas
prices, etc. They also said they had stopped by Atomic Brown as well. I
put in plugs for the shop and Pam and Steve as well as the club and with any
editorial luck they will not edit it those plugs out! They said there will
be short piece on the 4:00 news and a longer piece on the 5:00 news (channel
9!). The primary focus for the story was alternative means of transportation
with rising gas prices. So check it out if you can.
Thanks and here's to scooters.

Gang,
In yesterday's issue (Aug. 25 2005) of THE JOURNAL RECORD
there's a full page story on the last page titled "SCOOTERMANIA"
It talks about what we already know...scooters are cheaper to own,
economically and ecologically friendly and fun to boot.
If you can get your hand on a hard copy you may want to check it out.
You could go to www.journalrecord.com but you have to register on
their site to view archived stories. C'ya

As of Friday (August 26th) we are officially and
legally a non-profit organization. I know it may not seem like much, but it is
important as it will help us tremendously in a lot of different ways (as Shelly
can surly tell you). Anyway, we owe our gratitude to Bob for making this
happen.
I also have updated the website and all of its various
pages (even the letterboxing one). I added a bunch of new pictures and got rid
of some of the older ones too. We are trying to create a couple of folders of
club members (Above Water Allies) so we might all know who we are. I obviously
need to get a few pictures of folks we don’t have yet.
Aimee’s sister has just bought a new (blue) Stella
and she would like to go on a short small group ride this Sunday. If anyone is
interested to join us for an unofficial ride, just let us know. I offer up our
house (3328 NW 21st Street)
as a meeting point for around 2:00pm. If any other ideas come to mind, please
don’t hesitate to bring it up. For those who don’t know our home
phone number, it is 601-5561. Michele is working on club directories which
will aid us all in the future.
OFFICERS:
The last info I have received has us meeting at Back
Door Café this Saturday (10:00am). We will be there, unless we hear
otherwise. Thanks to Shelly for getting that ball rolling.
Hello all,
I have put a few pictures up from the Progressive Dinner on Aug 20th,
2005. I think Brian, has some good shots that he is going to put up
there as well. You will be able to find these pictures under the
Photos section on the group in a folder called Rides and Rally's
and then Progressive Dinner. I have a lot more pictures there are only 7
in the folder now. I am going to look to find a place to store more
photos for the group and send the link out to everyone. If you have
some pics that you think are good please send them to me and I find a
spot for them. Also if you are a dialup user please beware that it
will take a while for the pictures to load. If you have any questions
about pictures or want some of them just let me know.
Thank you,
Kent
I am in the process of reworking some of the photos that I took this
weekend. I may set up another place for our photo posts. You can go
ahead and post some of them and if we need to resize them or anything
I can do that and move them if need be to the new spot.
Thank you,
Kent

I had some good pictures from the progressive dinner over the weekend
but I wasn't sure if I should just post them here. There appeared to
be little memory space for photo's so I didn't know if we should be
cautious about posting to many pic's. What do you think?
Thanks,

To the Allies,
I think a Halloween season "Scary Scoot" down to Bricktown for dinner
and a haunted house would be a fun ride. We could decorate our scoots
with seasonal accessories to add to it.
A charity ride would be good too, something for maybe the food banks
or scoot for sclerosis.
What about printing up a calendar with photos of members and scooters
from various rides or get togethers, we could sell them for our
charity events or at our rallys.
There's a quick two cents worth from me...let's keep this rolling!
Curiously,

I am asking for your input on some of the following ideas for future club activities!
1. What would you think about having a monthly breakfast meeting and various locales in the metro area?
2. Ideas or suggestions about having a poker rally?
3. Ideas of road rallies such as a Hound and Haire or clue type rallies?
4. Travel out to a not so distant State Park that has camping or cabin facilities for an over night stay?
5. Ride in various parades in the OKC metro area?
6. Suggestions you have for future activites!!
Just wanting to get a direction from the membership on what peaks your interest so that we may offer a variety of activites that will include the masses!
We went Geo Caching and found some really fun locations and caches in Edmond. What did you guys find?
Went to the one that was an old estate..very interesting as it looks like something out of the early 1900's ..well at least the gates leading to what was once an estate!!
Chris and I (Eckie) had a wonderful time. Thanks to all of you for including
us.

I just wanted to thank Matt, Michele, Steve, Pam and Michele's Parents
for putting on a great dinner for the club last night. I think that

Thanks Shelly for setting up the group, it will be a great resource
for all of us.
And thanks to everyone for coming out last night. Despite the rain it
was a lot of fun!!
Michele
I would like to thank Steve all the way from Germany for helping me get
my scooter up and running. It's running like a champ. Also, I posted
some pics of it in the "photos" section. Check it out if you want.

Kudos on setting up the group, Michele. Hello to everyone else as
well. I enjoyed meeting all of you while I was in town and loved the
ride around Overholser. I'm now back in Germany and have purchased my
first scooter, A Vespa PK 50 XL. My wife, Heather, and I had been
discussing buying a scooter for the past 2 years, but after visiting
the states and scooting with everyone we were hooked. No more excuses,
it was time to buy. It's sitting in the garage right now with a
battery charger hooked up to it. After my first ride, I didn't turn
off the gas for about 2 hours, and flooded it. Then I killed the
battery by trying to start it with the electricstart. And that's one
reason why I'm joining this group, so I have other scooter enthusiasts
to help me through my amateur mistakes. The primary reason of course,
is to support the OKC Curiosity Scooter Club and keep up with the
group's activities. Can't wait to hear what's going on. Thanks again
for the wonderful memories.

Notes:
Come and enjoy the fun of riding your scooter with fellow enthusiast as we caravan to various houses for appetizers, main course and dessert to top it off!
PLEASE RSVP BY AUGUST 18th, so we can give a headcount to our host homes so they will know how much food they will need to prepare or provide for the participants.
This will be a fun evening and a great time to invite other scooter enthusiast to join us. Come out and spend some time with your club members!
Please RSVP to Gr8uro@... with the number in your party!
If you would like to add events to the calendar, please do so. I am
still having a bit of a problem with this site sending out reminders
from the entries in the calendar.
We have a few folks that have joined and please encourage others to
join the list and meet other scooter folks!!
