There seems to be an ever increasing quest for shared information and experiences from Toyota Prius Mk1 (NHW10) Hybrid electric car owners around the world.

This pioneering car was only ever officially sold in Japan for use in that country from 1997 till 2001. Some of these used cars are now appearing world-wide after being exported from Japan. Getting repairs done outside of Japan is generally very hard as the car is not supported by the dealerships. It may be possible to order spare parts via any of the official Toyota dealers, but they have little or none of the essential diagnostic equipment needed. Also, the workshop technical manuals, and user manuals for this particular car were only produced in Japanese (Kanji) text AFAIK.

This group should enable owners to compare fault symptoms, possible causes and remedies, and other experiences relating to this unique car. As I own the 2001 Mk II Prius (NHW11), I can not offer much help or advice directly. However, I thought I could help in some small way by setting up this user group.

Of course any discussion subject relating to the NHW10 Prius is very welcome. Don't wait until you need help or have a breakdown. Please post any interesting stories you may have. We would love to hear them.
