Why No Anti-roll (Sway) Bars?   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #6482 of 6516 |
Looking at current race cars it's obvious that suspension design has
changed greatly since the Lotus 7 and Super 7 days. However, I'm
wondering why so few of the Locost builds include anti-roll bars when
they once were part of just about every similar suspension design?

Clearly, there are a lot of technically informed builders creating
these Locosts, so I'm going to assume there is a good reason for this.
I'm just wondering why they are not necessary? Is it the low center of
gravity on a Locost or something else?

Cheers,

Lonnie

Just to add similar thoughts to Robert: On the Porsche 928 suspension, that is detailed and analysed in the book "Automobile Suspensions" by Colin Campbell,...

Indeed, the "single wheel bump harshness" argument has been trotted out against the use of stiff bars. SO goes the theory, and my answer was always "OK, but...

I don't have a stock book file. I can send you an image of my race car, but it won't be very useful with the Demo program. As I remember it the Demo locks...
