Yes. Diesel in a locost makes good sense. Maybe not the rocket racer that some
want, but it would make one heck of a sporty green machine! Besides, imagine if
your diesel could outrun their gasoline machine. lol

I once owned an 85 Jetta diesel (non-turbo) with 52 screaming HP. It
got just about 50 MPG average highway and was livable in a 2500 lb car.
It would have been more than adequate in a car half that weight. The
turbo models get very close to the same MPG and drive acceleration is
more like the gas models (as in HP). It's a very simple system and user
friendly.
