G'day Joel,
I've been for a ride in a +100 Locost with VG30DE and it certainly did go a bit,
the owner Peter wanted to put the TT Version in it but I understand it is now
sold.
As Paul has suggested, most of the Oz Locosters now reside at
http://www.oz_clubbies.com so come on over and introduce yourself.

Thanks for the advice.
The chassis is +100 but even still I did some quick measurements and it
would not fit without a lot of modification to the chassis plans.
So I guess I will keep hunting for a newer 2.0l or so .
Thanks again
Joel

Hi Joel,
The 300 motor will possibly/probably be too big (wide) for the chassis, as
possibly too powerful.
Is your chassis a book, +100 or ?????
Depending upon what state you are in, the requirements for beam & torsion
test will go up a bit to going up dramatically (means stronger heavier
chassis) for a 6 cyl eng and for o/all weight.
Bigger heavier engine & gearbox and possibly diff, although you aren't
likely to break a moderate sized diff, as wheel spin will happen long before
the diff comes under any fatal strain :-)
Additional weight in front will do nothing to enhance the handling either.
Basically the engine had to be in a current release car, 7 years prior to
the completion of your build, ask you chosen engineer for confirmation,
as state rules & engineers vary...not supposed to but they do.
Also the power & torque will be difficult to put on the ground, even with
racing type tyres, I've been in a few 200+ RWhp turbo'd cars, and smoke in
third is normal,
wheel spin in 4th occasional and the rear stepping out in corners is
sometimes uncontrollable and unexpectedly sudden..
I suggest seek the advice of your engineer, see if you can get a ride in a
couple of different 1.6 -2.0ltr fours, you WILL be surprised..and chase a
modern 1.6 or 2.0 four.
Maybe get the v6 as a freebee, and sell it to offset the cost of the 4 cyl
engine.
You may get better advise if you have a look at ozclubbie forum, most of
the people from this one live there now.
Some good people, some out to take your $$, some wankers too.....
introduce yourself as a newbie, ask in anyone in your area is building or
owns one, most will be happy to give you a look at least and probably a
ride.. any excuse to get out and go quick.
Hope this helps, good luck with the build

Subject: [Locost_Oz] Nissan 300zx engine?
Hello
I am still in the early stages of my clubman build which has halted for some
time due to being unable to decide on which engine to put in and the price
of a newer engine.
I have been offered a nice vg30dett 300zx twin turbo engine with wiring
loom, ecu etc for free and was wondering whether i should use this.
If i use this i can move along with my build and finish the chassis to fit
the engine, or else i have to wait a long time before i can afford to
purchase a newer engine.
I was after some advice as to whether i would be causing myself a lot more
drama down the track in regards to emissions etc. or should this engine be
reasonably ok in that regard?
Thanks for advice
Joel
