G'Day Edward,
Welcome to the world of Clubbie building. There's no
reason you can't build the Heynes car with a live axle, It's quite easy
and would remove a lot of the internal frame work in the rear of the car
required for the IRS. An Escort axle will just fit the 50mm wider frame
as I've had a look at my book Locost and I reckon the 50mm wider is the
go. Depending on where you are will probably dictate the engine used,
but in my opinion a Silver or Blacktop Toyota with a Birkin bell housing
and Ford T9 box is a well proven combination and in a 600Kg frame gives
very good performance. Theres a few tweaks you need to use on the frame
to get it to pass the Torsional testing etc.Been there done that *;-))*
Good luck with your build.
Regards,
Mike Laws
Adelaide.
