At one point in time, a company called Modelworks International produced 50 kit based replicas of the 1901 Locomobile steam car and called it the "Likamobile" and dispatched them around the world. We know that 10 ended up in the US. Somewhere around the world another 40 cars are being enjoyed by steam enthusiasts who wanted to be a little different. Today, unfortunately, Modelworks International is no longer in business. This is a loss for all 50 Likamobile owners in that the knowledge base of its construction and operation is no longer available to us. While the Likamobile replica looks like the original Locomobile, it was constructed and operates much differently than the original. As such, the existing web based knowledge resources like the Steam Clubs of America and Great Britain will not be as helpful as a specific group dedicated to the Likamobile’s nuances. Additionally, out of respect for the owners of original cars, it is prudent not to waste the time of original owners with topics specific to the Likamobile and its construction/operation. There are probably a few dozen original Locomobile steam cars left in the world of which, only a handful are operational. Our replicas have been designed to run efficiently, easily and for many years to come. This site is dedicated to the present and future owners of the Modelworks International Likamobile.
