1986 XJ with 3.4L Chevy Engine- UPDATE   Message List
Reply Message #71 of 71 | Next >

Hey guys thanks for all of the great information and direction. This vehicle was running when I started mods. We put the 3.4L purchased right from Chevy Performance in replacement of the 2.8 engine. The flywheel for the AX5 transmission is correct and neutral balance. Someone had put the incorrect automatic flywheel in before I purchased and the vibrations made us tear it down. The doner 1994 Camaro is going to give the MPI system, coil packs, ECU and wiring harness for this major mod. I will need a fuel tank from a later XJ with fuel injection and an adjustable fuel regulator. I have replaced the 207J transfer case with a 231J but have to figure out how to drive the electrical speedo in place of the mechanical one. I have replaced the standard duty "tin can" front drive shaft with a heavy duty type with universals at each end. I will be eliminating the front vacuum disconnect with a standard driven shaft as soon as I can get back to the junk yard. This will have an electric fan since shrouds cannot be found for this year configuration. Every junk yard puppy I have found is broken badly. I have used poly bushings everywhere and lifted it 3" before starting engine mods and it ran well after alignment with no vibrations. Future mods will include a Ford 8.8 rear end and some 4.11 gears to replace the Dana 35 and 3.55's.
