It sounds like a day in court for you... If you
can get the repair shop (where the Jeep is now) to
write a statement as to why the motor was blown
("timimg chain improperly installed"), please take the
place that installed the timimg chain to court, sue
for damages to your motor, replacement costs, time
missed from work, etc. If you don't win, your bills
will be the same; if you do, the parties responsible
will think twice before they "ripoff" another woman.
Take a picture of the block to court with you.
I have done this with a place; I took it in to
have the wheel bearings replaced, as they were making
a lot of noise. I was informed when I picked it up,
that the problem was a u-joint, which they replaced.
2 days later, the left rear wheel and axle can out of
the housing while I was driving. They paid for the
replacement of both wheel bearings, damage to the axle
housing, towing and time missed from work, but
only after I took them to small claims court, with the
corresponding paperwork... They are no longer in
business, as they had had several prior claims...
Go get 'em. girl...

Hi!
I had my timing chain on my 1997 Jeep TJ (4 cycl...180Klm) replaced
two weeks ago as preventative mainentance (I had one go on my
previous car and it cracked the block).
Two weeks after that the motor blew. I saw the motor and there's a
hole right through the top of the Piston. I think the synopsis was
something like this: Something bent the spark plug which bent the
push rod, which put a hole thru the piston which bent the connecting
rod which then put antifreeze in my oil pan.
The place who did the timing chain quoted me $5100 Cdn for a used
motor from the wrecker so I had the Jeep towed somewhere else for a
second opinion.
The second place quoted me a much better price on the used motor and
while doing the repair, I asked the second place to check out the
timing chain and they discovered that it was one linkage out of
alignment. They said that that was the cause of the blown motor.
Is this true?
I'm hoping someone can help me as I'm not only out of pocket $400 for
the estimate from the first repair shop, and the repair of the blown
motor $2500, I'm also out of pocket the original timing chain repair
$800 and I bought a new car for $12k in all the panic of not having
transportation.

Now I'm envious! If I had been able to stay with my original contract,
mine would be paid off in May. But when I bought my house in December
2002, I had to refinance through the credit union, and now I'm into it
for another four loooooong years!
In spite of not having been off the pavement for a ridiculous length of
time, I did have a very happy Jeep moment yesterday. I'm under my rig
with one foot propped against a rear control arm balancing the dangling
T-case end of the driveline against my knee so I can get at the needle
zerk with the grease gun. The radio is on, as it usually is when I'm
out in the shop. And I realize I'm lying there singing along with
Shania, "Man, I feel like a woman!" Priceless.

Man, I'm glad I'm not the only person who hasn't been wheeling in over a
year! I feel so lame sometimes having such a big redneck Jeep that does
nothing but sit in the garage. Oh well, at least it's not getting
banged up in there, I guess! I better get out in the woods soon or I'm
going to start wondering whether it's worth the monthly car payment.

Hi Stacey!
It's nice to see some mail come through this list :-). Here in Northern
Wisconsin it's a good, snowy, cold winter. I'm hoping to order a few
parts for my Blazer soon - a slip yoke eliminator, rear driveshaft, and
rear disc brake conversion kit. We went wheeling about a month ago, and
on the 15th I'm going to try out some ice races. Should be fun!

It has been a long time since much has come through here. I miss all the crazy banter. I am out of commision again from wheeling. I haven't been out since September. ARGH! I might just lose my mind. I am pregnant AGAIN. My little one is 13 months now and I am due in April. Maybe someday I will get to go wheeling again. I hope. I can't even get into my Jeep right now. Until then I will live vicariously through everyone else who gets to actually go. Maggie Gilliland

Hi Stacey!
It's nice to see some mail come through this list :-). Here in Northern
Wisconsin it's a good, snowy, cold winter. I'm hoping to order a few parts
for my Blazer soon - a slip yoke eliminator, rear driveshaft, and rear disc
brake conversion kit. We went wheeling about a month ago, and on the 15th
I'm going to try out some ice races. Should be fun!
