Hi!
I had my timing chain on my 1997 Jeep TJ (4 cycl...180Klm) replaced
two weeks ago as preventative mainentance (I had one go on my
previous car and it cracked the block).
Two weeks after that the motor blew. I saw the motor and there's a
hole right through the top of the Piston. I think the synopsis was
something like this: Something bent the spark plug which bent the
push rod, which put a hole thru the piston which bent the connecting
rod which then put antifreeze in my oil pan.
The place who did the timing chain quoted me $5100 Cdn for a used
motor from the wrecker so I had the Jeep towed somewhere else for a
second opinion.
The second place quoted me a much better price on the used motor and
while doing the repair, I asked the second place to check out the
timing chain and they discovered that it was one linkage out of
alignment. They said that that was the cause of the blown motor.
Is this true?
I'm hoping someone can help me as I'm not only out of pocket $400 for
the estimate from the first repair shop, and the repair of the blown
motor $2500, I'm also out of pocket the original timing chain repair
$800 and I bought a new car for $12k in all the panic of not having
transportation.
