Sounds like a draging caliper to me, geting the brakes hot. could also be a bad lining in the hose on that side. It will get the rotor tosty, then it warps....

also while you are at it have the tire balance checked. you can toss a weight.. but still think the brakes sound like a good starting point....

junkyard units are cheap around here, can get complete units for under $100. I would look for an 8.75 rear from a newer XJ for an upgrade while I was at it....
