Description

The IndyCycle is designed by Jim Musser with some of the original concept work dating back into the 1980's. If you recall seeing the Jim Hall's Chevy Chaparrals racing in the 1960's, you have seen the results of Jim's work. One of the four designers on that team, Jim's extraordinary body of work, including time at General Motors, certainly qualifies him to design vehicles with any number of wheels or no wheels at all.

The SportCycle is not currently available as a kit but can be built from detailed plans. You can purchase plans for $95 by communicating with sales@sportcycle.info. Plans purchasers are supplied with information on sourcing of minor and major parts (body, sheet metal, etc.) that may be too difficult to fabricate in a home shop. The chassis work could be contracted out to a competent welding shop. By utilizing off the shelf parts, a single shock frt suspension design and retaining the motorcycle's frame, Musser has made building your own vehicle very affordable. Using the motorcycle frame & its VIN number may also ease licensing issues.

Adaptations of the basic frame have been made to fit a number of different donor motorcycles in the US and UK. With this unique design Musser has taken the open 3-wheeled single seater design concept further than anyone else to date. With a completed weight of under 900 pounds and a 100-120 HP engine, 0-60 times of < 5 seconds are possible.

There are currently many vehicles under construction and many helpful builders, so the knowledgebase on these vehicles is ever increasing. Check out the Photos area for some good detailed pics of vehicles in progress. Used vehicles have traded on eBay. Due to their unique appearance, some vehicles have been used for business promotion purposes.

You may notice the IndyCycle called a SportCycle in more recent postings. After a dialog with Brickyard Trademarks, Inc. (Indianapolis Motor Speedway) The IndyCycle name was officially changed to SportCycle.
