I have a set from jc whittney. But they are loud. They fit right inside the crossover without the bushing. No need to do anything to the carbs just pop them on and go.
I ended up taking them off because I don't want a loud bike.
I sell them if you are looking to buy.

Look around for a Harley shop, either a dealer or custom shop. There are
(dumb) people who remove
the factory mufflers from Sportsters to install 'Screaming Eagle' muffler
systems. You should be
able to find a set in like new condition very reasonably.

Parts swapping and delivery of parts to the person of order. Glad I have a
tracker on the package I had to resend a month ago and now the postal inspector
is investigating the missing part/ package. after learning how to mail it
correctly I hope that you get your package. If not I feel sorry for who got the
package cause they are going to be prosectuted............damn I feel sorry for
them.
Exactly!! As I thought! The carbs installed on
the bike when received were not originals but newer than the ones I bought from
EBay
(and the new correct 24A OEM carb is presently installed on the
bike now, with 105 jets)
My friend says that the carbs should be marked
VB24A(1978)..For a 1979 they would be VB24B, for a 1980 VB24C etc.
So what year exactly is a 34A??, the jets were 110,
everything fits on the bike ok, it’s just the bikes settings I want to
confirm if I ever want to return to this older “newer “carb.
Thx Roo

Ron:
The 78 CB400A came with carb model no. VB24A. I believe the "QB" and
"PK" ref assembly and/or manufacturing location, but I'm not sure
about this. I would have to say that what you bought on eBay is actually closer
to the original than what was on your bike when you bought it. Here's some
specs for the 78 CB400A Carb model VB24A:
Main Jet No.
Primary: 72
Secondary: 105
Initial Pilot Screw Opening: 1-3/4 turns out
Needle Jet Clip: Fixed
Float Level: 15.5mm (0.61 in.)
Idle Speed: 1250RPM (+/- 100RPM)
I particularly like the idle speed specs - 100RPM tolerance for us "by
ear" adjusters!
Hope this helps.
Cheers!

So would a 450 cylinder/head work on a 400 or just bore it out to that.Or could
a guy go even more cc's,say 500?I'm sure you'd have some carb work also. Not that
I'm going to do this but if ya need to do a top end rebuild ya might as well go
bigger

Ron:
It is attached. You will need Adobe Reader 7.0 or higher to use the
search function. You may also want to download my file
"PartsCrossRefInstructions.pdf". I use this all the time to
find out what parts from other models/years will fit my CB400A.
Cheers!
