i have the same vehicle as you with 175,000 miles and it still runs
strong, try replacing the thermostat before anything thats one of the
cheapest and most common repairs i've seen
i had mine broken too!!! went to ford and they fixed it on warranty.
You never know, yours might be on it too. There are lots of good
sites if u just search for custom car parts in most search
engines. but if u want to see some phat explorers, go to
www.explorerunderground.com and
www.cardomain.com
hello heather,
I have a 97 explorer sport... No problem so far... I just love my sport.

go back and get new leaf springs, anyone else have this problem?

Hahaha! That's some funny $#!+! You might want to start off by
looking at a local scrap yard. There have to be some Explorers there
for parts. You COULD go to the dealer and get new OEM equipment, but
I wouldn't do it myself. Too expensive. Let me know what you find.
Anyone know how to re-wire the fog lights so you can
run them without turning on your parking lights. I
want to use them as day time runners, it looks pretty
sweet. Let me know! Thanks!
Ryan

I am looking at buying a 1993 Explorer sport with a 4.0 that is
running rough and I was told it gets hot quickly. I hope that it is
just a sticking thermostat. My question is, are these 4.0's known for
cracking heads? As far as I have ever known, 4.0 are tough motors,
but I would like to know if anyone has had much trouble out of those
motors. Thank you - Evan
Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I've since found out
what the 'theft' light means, but unfortunately this
system will hinder my ability to install a remote start
system from my previous vehicle. I'm told that the
passive security system must be disabled in order to
install a remote start system. Not sure that I want to do
that :(<br><br><br>Mike
To the best of my knowledge. The theft light is
indication of the passive security system. The system
function is that only an ignition key (with a
microchip)programmed for your vehicle will start it.
Hey, thanks alot for the offer. Mine is a 2000
(same as a '99 (right?) so all the info would be the
same). At the moment, I'm waiting for the manual that
the dealer promised he would get from the next 2K
Explorer that came onto the lot. If this doesn't pan out,
I would love to have a copy of yours. I'll let you
know, thanks again.<br><br><br>Mike
What year do you have? I would be happy to copy
my owner's manual and send it to you. Also, I have
duplicates of every other piece of literature that came with
it. Mine's a 1999. Same engine and tranny. Let me
know.
Hey all, I just entered the world of Explorer
ownership today and couldn't be happier. I would like to
know if a good website exists for specs on the 4.0L
SOHC engine and the 5-speed auto tranny.
Unfortunately, my newly-purchased Explorer came with no owner's
manual, so I'm in the dark about some of the features
('theft' light and what it means, etc...). Thanks for any
help.<br><br>By the way, check out my pics in the 'photos'
section :)<br><br><br>Mike
This was the first opportunity to run my new 2001
Sport on the open highway and I was pleasantly
surprised at it's performance. The gas mileage turned out to
be 20.3 over 1200 miles and I expect some
improvement since we have not broken it in yet. All in all
its a great experience. This is my first SUV.
Hey people <br>I'm getting new exhaust on my
explorer sport next week and I haven't made up my mind on
what I want (exactly). I was hoping some of you out
there have had exhaust upgrades and could give me some
more advice. So far i'm gonna go with a cat-back
single 2 1/4 inlet and 3" dual side exits.<br>What do
you think?
Does anyone have any good stories to share. I've
been dying to take my Sport offroading...but won't
really get much of a chance to do that until Winter hits
here. I want to see what this thing's really made of!
:)
I just bought my 2001 Explorer about 2 weeks ago. Absolutely love it. I'm glad
there is an area for the Sport edition....seems that all you hear about is the 4
doors.<br><br>Glad to be here! :)
Anyone know anything about the Explorer Message
center? I saw a picture of it, and the only thing I know
about it, is that it comes in the Explorer Eddie Bauer
Edition, as standard equipment. What does it do though?
<br>Thanks,<br><br>JI
