I suppose that becomes the other issue; if you have $500 worth of parts cars
hauled away involuntarily, how long will an individual fight in court? By the
time your case gets there, the vehicle(s) are already likely crushed and nowhere
near useful.
I would much rather part out something than send it to the crusher, but the
majority of people don't have any idea what a classic vehicle can be worth,
parts or whole. So the parts get more expensive, or they just dry up
altogether.
I ran the Harry Potter books through a spell checker; none of those spells
should work.

Doesn't sound right to me. If you've been dealt with unjustly, we have a legal
system that allows you to defend your position...might want to speak to a lawyer
if you think it's worth it.

They came onto my property and that of others here in Seattle w/o just cause or
warrant to take licensed and insured vehicles they deemed abandoned and the fine
for each was $770!

covered or garaged, they must have a warrant or probable cause. If you have
something deemed illegal sitting out in plain sight, that's another story. In
plain view can develope into probable cause and that changes things. So keep
your rigs covered when they're sitting, get em working well, and enjoy watching
folks admiring your iron.

the crusher cops to come knocking! I bought an AMX from a fellow there that said
the authorities ( I believe it was the county.. perhaps the state) were going
onto private property and demanding that non-registered/ insured vehicles be
removed or crushed. He said he had a friend with several cars from the 50's that
did not have titles stored in a barn. After giving a ridiculously short time to
prepare, they came in with some sort of warrant and hauled several of his cars
off to the crushers. (I believe the limit was 2 unregistered vehicles on the
property, whether a city lot or a 100 acre farm). It's hard to believe things
like this happen in America, but they do and we let it happen.

influence the public to start driving the vehicles that are right for our time
(as determined by them) and I believe this is a first step. I don't know for
certain what the next one will be, but it probably will involve artificially
inflating fuel prices and giving further tax breaks to those who purchase "Green
Machines". IMHO

think in the next 3 years. This is the industry I have worked for almost 20
years. No amount of reasoning to keep affordable parts for an aging private
fleet (average age of a privately owned car is growing exponentially since mid
08 due to lack of new car purchases) could dissuade Congress and the
Adiministration from their path. (SEMA, MEMA, Auto Retailer groups and many
aftermarket industry companies were against this in a big way.)
