Upcoming calendar upgrade: Yahoo! Groups calendars are being upgraded to a much improved version. You may not have access to the calendar (for up to 24 hours) when this group is upgraded. We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience.
Description
This group will try to focus mainly on the development of a three-wheeled, electric-powered, two seat, commuter vehicle.
My fondest hope is that a group of people with the right set of skills will collaborate to build parts and/or subassemblies for a number of vehicles. This will allow members of the group to stay within in their individual areas of expertise...yet still end up with very similar, very practical, complete, personal vehicles at a reasonable cost. The more a member contributes, the lower the total cost for his/her own vehicle. This cost reduction is to be accomplished either by trading work/parts or by selling, at reasonable cost, to other members. Think of it as "sweat equity".
This is to be a three and a half season vehicle with cabin heat possibly provided by waste heat from liquid cooling the drive motor. Air conditioning, also, will hopefully be explored. There is also the possible option of adding a "generator trailer" for unlimited range as a fossil fuel hybrid.
At this time, the project in question is in the earliest stage of development. Currently the design in the back of my head has two wheels in front and one, powered, wheel in the rear.
Locomotion is to be provided, possibly, by a homebuilt brushless motor and controller powering a motorcycle final drive.
Bodywork is a foam/fiberglass/carbon fiber/kevlar sandwich and should be easily customized to suit the individual builder.
So as to prevent spam, new members must be approved. Please tell briefly why you are interested in this group during your subscription process or send an email stating same to the "subscribe" address.
"Lurkers" are welcomed...I have learned much by just reading archives and "listening". Keep in mind, though, that you will likely learn more by asking questions that spur debates!
The time frame has been upset an unplanned "employment deficit". I am currently living on the funds I meant to devote to the project! Keep a good thought...perhaps summer?
