RE: [Econosrus] exhaust manifold problems

We are thinking the same thoughts, re JM’s 300…no way would I be ripping into the manifolds every few weeks…

However the 300 is a weird animal…the two stock manifolds are bolted together very solidly, and they share common bolts.  The intake/exhaust gasket is a separable unit, so perhaps with headers, maybe just the intake gets a gasket, and yse the copper for the headers?  Figure out how to deal with the “step” between the two flange heights, with a common bolt needed for the two flanges?  It’s all possible…

Saw several references to leaky exhaust manifolds in the last digest. Haven't you guys ever heard of Permatex Copper?

1. Remove manifold and clean surfaces.
2. Coat one surface with Permatex Copper.
3. Install manifold and torque bolts.
4. Allow drying time.
5. Forget about it.

I used this stuff on my 429 ten years ago and it's still holding strong.

I ran the old Clifford 6-into-2 headers on my 240 for years, and never had a problem with the gaskets leaking. At least two companies - Rocket and Mr. Gasket -...

Len, I've heard of it but never tried it. Are you saying to eliminate the gasket completely? A friend tried that once on a 352, and installed the manifolds...

I went back to no gaskets on my GM truck with 454. I had a problem with it blowing out the rear passenger side. It's a bit noisier when cold, but once it...
