Early REO
One & Two Cylinder REO Automobiles and Trucks
This site is dedicated to the efforts of Ransom Eli Olds (June 3, 1864 -
August 26,1950) after his departure from Olds Motor Company that produced
the Curved Dash Oldsmobile. R.E. Olds began work on the REO Motor Car in
the Summer of 1904. Due to a previous agreement with Olds Motor Company,
he was not able to use his last name in any future endeavors but could use
his initials, R.E.O.
By September 1904, he had 3 prototype Model A REO's constructed and out on the roads of Michigan for testing. These 3 cars performed admirably and were driven more than 1,000 miles each without breakdown. Reportedly, these very cars were shown at the Automobile Show in New York City in January, 1905. Orders were taken for many 2-cylinder Model A REO's and production commenced in the Spring of 1905 at the new Lansing, Michigan, factory. Sometime after production of the 2-cylinder cars started, 1-cylinder cars were added to the line-up.
The purpose of this group is directed towards the 1 & 2 cylinder REO automobiles produced from 1905 - 1910 and the 1-cylinder Model H REO truck produced in 1911-13. We will attempt to provide a forum for questions and answers; show construction details and restoration hints; allow an area for
photos of members cars; a section to list items/cars for sale or wanted and a place to list providers of parts and services.
