From my page: http://bmwmotorcycletech.info/sale.htm:
For sale....or trade...or?
5.
a) Both tops, that is, the one for with a passenger, with the rear window;
and, the tonneau, for rainy weather with no passenger; or,
perhaps, low windshield. Both are for an EML GT2 sidecar, and might fit
other EML's (I don't know). I never used these. They are in
pretty nice condition! My EML has a tall windshield and a tall rollbar,
and other changes, and I made a full top...so these will not fit my rig.
These are, to my knowledge, the original types, made of a black
canvas-looking material; which I think is a very high quality
boat top material. I think they are the original EML factory-made ones.
The material is rubberized on the inside, so I think they are
waterproof. They are VERY well made, with very nice double sewing and
great seams, etc. The tonneau style is finished, with the fancy
pull snaps by Tenax (they are either nickel plated or maybe it is chrome
plated), and has the Velcro too. The rear plastic window is in
pretty decent condition. I believe that these two items have never been
used, because the snaps or whatever was to be used to mount
the one with the window never had the snaps fitted to this sidecar, AFAIK.
The holes were there for it in the sidecar. My sidecar has the
front holes for the 'tonneau', but never were used, to my knowledge. $130
for both, plus shipping.
b) The shorter plastic front windshield for an EML GT2, in pretty decent
condition. $75 plus shipping.
Will trade or?....see the bottom of the website page for stuff I am looking
for.

My GT2 actually has a steel bracket inside the trunk protecting the tail light
assembly - looks factory but couls have been built/added by the previous
owner. Since these e-mails go out to the group, I'm also attaching an
excel spread sheet with bearing /seal sizes and #'s for my rig.

When you check remember that the lights are both for the right side of the car.
It would be nice to source the complete housings also. The rear housing has worn
out on mine where the bulb socket twists in to the housing. It is exposed to the
inside of the trunk and sticks out a bit, so gets bumped all too often. Thought
of adapting some sort of 90degree socket to fit in, so it doesn't protrude as
far.
Even thought someone might make aftermarket lenses that are clear for use with
tinted bulbs, as was popular here a few years back. That might work too.

There is information on that website page of mine,
http://bmwmotorcycletech.info/EMLsidecar8.htm , on what I have been told
are the lights. I did some research on this at a Mazda dealership. One
problem with the lights is that the front and rear are from different
vehicles, for the EML chair, and likely car models never imported to the
USA. NOT sure about that...regarding the front though.
Some of the last bits of information I was trying to pin down included the
year and model of the Mazda for the front lamp assembly. I was not about
to order the $ part from Mazda here, to find out if I was correct or not.
It is possible that the front lamp (R) assembly is 8BB6-51-090...that is
the whole darn thing, housing and all. I think the plastic lens covering
is BF67-51-093. I was looking at the fiche at the dealership, for the 1986
Mazda 323. Someone posted about maybe a good number was B033-51-061, but I
don't have further information...and my copy of the Mazda sketches and part
numbers does not include that number (yep, the dealership guy printed
copies for me of his fiche!). Some of my investigation that I got mostly
nowhere's with, was into the 81-82 Mazda GLC, and some other years of the
323. The 323 was made in a lot of versions and names! I think that
included the Familia and the Protege. The rear lamp assembly may be from
a late 80's Ford Falcon wagon...not sure. There was a comment about the
Ford Lazer version of the Mazda 323.
The last thing I was going to get into, before I stopped, was the Suzuki
45651-78400.
I tried to get someone in Europe to help me, but he flaked-out.
One last thing .....the EML importer in Florida, has not been helpful.
Typically, no reply to inquiries. However, he finally sent me an E-mail a
long time ago, that he had procured front and rear lenses for me in Europe,
and would ship them with his large parts shipments, so as to negate big
shipping charges for me for such small items;.....but, after two follow-ups
by me, including one many months after that E, there has been NO response.
Thus, I think that unless someone has better luck with that guy, or someone
in Europe, or here, does the leg work......we are out of luck with EML and
the importer, regarding parts, and we will have to figure it all out
ourselves...if we can. I dread the day I accidentally break a plastic
cover over the lamps.

I have an EML GT2, with the EML 310 suspension shock unit I have

developing that has bearing sizes and product #. I'll keep researching this
and pass on any info I receive to the site. I'll take a picture of the
front lens and tail light and send it to some friends in England to see if
they recognize - I imagine it is European, but I remember seeing some old
Datsuns (Nissans) with a similar looking tail light assembly.

I have an EML GT2, with the EML 310 suspension shock unit I have
successfully rebuilt. I've done two of them.
I did the same for the steering stabilizer, which I think was EZS, but I
have seen this type on other EML rigs.
A direct URL for the main article, which has a LOT of information on the
suspension, brakes, etc., of the EML is:
http://bmwmotorcycletech.info/EMLsidecar8.htm
It is a very long article, full of information.
The separate article on the dampener, which may or may not be your type is:
http://bmwmotorcycletech.info/ezs_steering_dampener.htm
Hopefully these articles will be of some help to you.
BTW...I am still looking for spare front plastic lens and rear taillight
lens for my rig; I have some leads, but can't find out all I need to know.
Anyone who has the car make, model, year, and part numbers, or, anything
really, on those lenses, please POST!

I suspect that, eventually, we will ID the exact source.

The rear lens is from a 79 or around that Suzuki Alto also marketed in
other parts of the world as a Maruti. Have a picture of one at work.
Haven't had much luck finding anything available on line. Did get a front
lens but it had no #'s or associated car listing on it. It doesn't fit as
well as a I hoped and I have to remove he whole assembly now to try to make
it go in. I believe they are from an late 70's/early 80's Mazda GLC.

I too talked to the importer here in Florida (Miami) and he was not helpful
or concerned. They are more focused on selling new units (including that
bizarre 2 wheeled sidecar), not helping owners of some of the older units.
I've written him off as useless. A lot of those guys are making their
money selling square grouper and EML may be a cover or sideline.

I dread the day I accidentally break a plastic
cover over the lamps.

they recognize - I imagine it is European, but I remember seeing some old
Datsuns (Nissans) with a similar looking tail light assembly.

Thanks Bob. New to the list, I've had my sidecar rig for a couple of years. If
there isn't one out there, I'll share my excel spread sheet that I'm developing
that has bearing sizes and product #. I'll keep researching this and pass on any

Long time viewer first time poster. After trying for years to help my friend
sell his EML rig, he dropped the price to where even I would buy it. So I did.
Well now I have two. My project rolled 85 K100 blue with gray EML sidecar ( I
need a used windshield ) and my new to me blue Hondapodamus EML, it's running.
See pic's
The BMW/EML rig has been sold to a nice guy in Wisconsin, who is going to cart
his granddaughters around in it.
I'm glad it went to someone who will appreciate it and use it.
Good luck to the rest of you, I'm out of sidecars for a little while at least.
Denny
I've set up a new album under "photos" on the EML-SCT yahoo group website
(thanks Al) for you all to peruse.
As you can see, the paint isn't stellar, and I have a fondness for bumper
stickers. I can remove these before delivery. I have a new set of the EML decals
if the future owner wants to repaint.
The windscreen had cracked through at the left rear hardware mount, so I made up
backer plates to hold it all together.

I can take all the pictures you like. I will do some later today and find
somewhere to post them that doesn't require everyone to fill out a membership to
see them.
The frame is as supplied from EML, no work done by the owner(s). EML would take
stock BMW frames and would modify them (ie, gusseting, rear subframe welded on,
sidecar mounts welded on) and would supply it with the kit. "Mounting the
sidecar" was more disassembling your motorcycle and putting the pieces on the
EML supplied frame.

Are pictures available somewhere? Did the kit include the motorcycle frame
or was the frame modified for the rig to attach?

Whoops, I did forget to mention that the '81 BMW/EML is for sale in the Chicago

Hello all,
I'm thinking I want to try to go in a new direction moto-wise. As I'm still not
divorced yet, and said divorce is likely to f*** up my credit rating for some
time, I need to part with toys if I want to buy other toys.
Up for sale are my two current bikes. First is my sidecar rig, a BMW/EML kit. In
the world of sidecars, most people start by putting a cheap velorex sidecar on
an otherwise stock bike that had a tubular steel frame and riding it as is. I
would equate this to a Model A, a glacial step out of the biological moto-swamp,
that gives you a Charles Atlas upper-body course due to the steering geometry.
It's pretty crude, and turns a lot of people off to the world of asymetrical
steering, which is a shame as it has it's own odd charm.
Today there are guys building high performance rigs on ZX14's with center hub
steering and swaybars. I would say these were the Ferrari's of sidecarring.
Check this link if you doubt it: http://www.youtube. com/watch? v=3EnSmkO6fOQ
I have a 1981 BMW R100RT with and 1985 EML GT Tour sidecar kit. This entailed a
new, beefed up frame that was gusseted and had sidecar mounts added. It has a
leading link fork to deal with side loads that telescopic forks were never meant
to deal with. It also allows the trail to be set at an amount that makes
steering much easier when the bike can't lean anymore. The last piece of the
puzzle are wheels sized and suitable for car tires, which were meant to deal
with vertical loads and side loads with a flat tread to keep the maximum amount
of rubber on the road. In the sidecar world I would equate this rig to a Mustang
or Camaro, and was state of the art in 1985 when these two were mated.
Initial installation was done at the defunct BMW Motorrad of St. Louis, the EML
importer. i have all the receipts for the bike, EML kit, and installation.
....around here somewhere. Honestly, I can't find them presently due to three
moves in the last year and a half, but I swear they exist and will be supplied
when found.
The sidecar has a cavernous trunk, and I had my mechanic weld in a receiver
hitch for either a cargo carrier or pulling a trailer. It works well, I had a
guy get out of his car at a light to take a picture of me moving my rollaway
toolbox on the flat utility trailer pulled behind the hack. The sidecar is a
double wide, and I routinely used to pick up three kids from elementary school
with it, and has two sets of seatbelts to remind the young ones not to stand up.
It has a top that completely covers the sidecar passengers when assembled, and I
also have a tonneau for covering the passenger area in inclement weather when
not hauling passenger(s) .
The maintenance and mods to the beemer are many. The trans was rebuilt about
four years ago by the preeminent BMW guru anywhere (Oak), who also rebuilt the
beancan electronic ignition. It got a valve job three years ago including new
exhaust valves and seats, and got new rings in its Nikasil cylinders last year.
It runs as well as any beemer I know of. The diode board (charging system) is a
Thunderchild and has a 14.2V voltage regulator, and has a new ignition brain box
with the later large heatsink. I have added an auxiliary fuse box to power the
gadgets I like to have (XM, radar detector, GPS) which doubles as an input for a
trickle charger. There is an Odyssey car battery in the hack trunk to give
greater capacity and move the weight over to where it needs to be to act as
ballast. I added LED taillights to the bike and hack to save wattage and add
visibility. And to screw with uptight BMW guys ("zees ees not corrrrrrrrect! ")
Delivery includes individualized amateur instruction. I've not been driving a
hack as long as some, but I've been doing it long enough to be ingrained second
nature.
So, amaze your friends, make new ones (no lie, I've been stopped three times
over the years by young women who asked for rides. That never happened on a two
wheeler), haul more stuff than you can in a Focus (based on personal experience)
and perform three wheel drifts through wet, debris-riddled intersections that
scared you on two wheels, all for the low low price of $6500!
I also have back in my possesion the 1999 yellow Buell M2, the same one that I,
RickL and JohnF have traded through the last few years. It's a grand bike, real
world torque and great handling while getting around 50mpg. It's a great bike,
and while I've not ventured out on track days it seems to me a torquey good
handling bike should be good for track beginners. I like it, but at this point I
need a bike for two-up riding and the Buell isn't it for a fat guy like me.
Beemer Craig could haul his whole family on it, but not me. Truthfully there is
an exhaust stud broken that should be fixed, other than that JohnF added a brand
new exhaust while under his care and it is ready for riding. $2700 sounds fair
to me.
I'm open to mix-n-match trades. The girlfriend has a 1990 Saab Turbo convertible
that is a rust free west coast car with a 1 year old top, if anyone is
interested, either by itself or in combination with any of the above. I'm
thinking my next hack project might move with a bit more alarcity pulled by a
Rocket 3, but I'm open to interesting stuff.
Let me know,
Sidecar Denny (for now anyways)

Hello all,
I'm thinking I want to try to go in a new direction moto-wise.
Check this link if you doubt it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3EnSmkO6fOQ
Louis, the EML
importer. i have all the receipts for the bike, EML kit, and
installation.....around here somewhere. Honestly, I can't find them presently
due to three moves in the last year and a half, but I swear they exist and will
be supplied when found.
It has a top that completely covers the sidecar passengers when assembled, and I
also have a tonneau for covering the passenger area in inclement weather when
not hauling passenger(s).
There is an Odyssey car battery in the hack trunk to give
greater capacity and move the weight over to where it needs to be to act as
ballast. I added LED taillights to the bike and hack to save wattage and add
visibility. And to screw with uptight BMW guys ("zees ees not corrrrrrrrect!")
As of June 1st, we had 212 pre-registered with USCA, via Tom Hansen.
Pre-reg is closed.
Penny and I are trying to get an estimate of how many folks, who have NOT
USCA pre-registered with
Tom Hansen, are going to show up at the Rally and register on site and
participate in such as the Rally Dinner, etc.
Please note!>>>....this request for information does NOT apply to those few
of you who are simply 'visiting' for a awhile.
For those who DO intend to show up, AND ARE PREVIOUSLY NOT USCA
pre-registered, and ARE participating,
in such as the Rally Games OR attending the Rally Dinner::::::
(1). How many in your family, etc., will be attending, who have not
pre-registered?_____________adults;
__________children (and ages of children)
(2). How many of those in (1) above are going to partake of the Saturday
morning Kiwanis breakfast? _____________
Will be there for Sunday morning muffins/etc:____________
(3) Do you intend to purchase one or more Rally T-shirts?
___________________________number and sizes of each
The information will be used to help decide how many extra mugs, meals, and
T-shirts we will plan for. Decisions will be
finalized on Friday June 5th.
Please reply directly to me, not the LIST, and ONLY reply if you have NOT
pre-registered with Tom Hansen, and DO
intend to be at the Rally.
Snowbum@...
thanks!

Hi,
I replaced my GT2000 brake pads with Aprilia RS250 pads. I believe they are both
Fo5 pads. Still trying to find out what disc I am using...

Hi,
dunno if it helps any but I the last time i replaced my EML GT2000 brake pads I
used the rear pads for an Aprilia RS250. Here is a pic.
http://www.thansen.dk/product.asp?c=2836257470&n=-1329794346&pn=-1329794344
I am pretty sure my pads ar Fo5 and the caliper is a Fo8. 200mm disc. I am still
looking for a replacement of the disc and I have no idea what make it is. I am
guessing, Italien... Sometimes it helps if I can find out what bikes also uses
the same parts!

I have been posting the occasional message to prompt everyone to get their
2009 USCA National Sidecar Rally Pre-registration in before the postmarked
date of May 25th, when Rally Pre-registration closes.
May 25th is a National Holiday, Memorial Day, and all postoffices will be
closed that day.
Pre-registration will be extended through those applications postmarked May
26th. None will be accepted after that date.....you will have to Register
on site, at the increased fees.
Rally registration forms are clickable from the Rally site page.
This has no effect on Camp Richardson advance registrations, which still
close on May 25th.
The first of two batches of T-shirts has already been printed. The Rally
Pins have been made. Rally mugs will be ordered shortly. If you want one
of these mugs, T's, and Pins, I suggest you get your Rally Registration in
to Tom Hansen right away....don't delay....your Rally Registration will be
rejected if you have a postmark after May 26th....that's TWO DAYS FROM NOW!
See you here at Beautiful Lake Tahoe.

As of about a week ago for USCA pre-registration:
149 total pre-registered with the USCA, via Tom Hansen,
consists of 141 adults and 8 children.
132 indicated they would partake of the Kiwanis Saturday morning breakfast
at Camp Richardson.
As of this afternoon, for Camp Richardson:
63 camping spaces for the Camp Richardson Eagles Nest Group Campsites are
pre-registered at Camp Richardson Eagles. 98 are available. That means
that only 35 spaces are left.
There are only 9 RV spaces (out of the 25 we reserved) left for
pre-registration at Camp Richardson RV Village area.
All but 3 rooms are now taken at the Camp Richardson Beach Inn.
Camp Richardson's Hotel is ENTIRELY taken, already, by USCA folks.
***Because of that, we are now able to have all our Seminars in the Hotel
'Great Room' !!!
Camp Richardson....in response to our 'begging', recently extended their
Registration deadline, previously April 30th, to May 25th. If you have not
pre-registered with USCA and with Camp Richardson, time is running out.
Get your reservations mailed before May 25th! We have limited capacity to
deal with those who show up without any reservations. On May 25th, Camp
Richardson releases all untaken spaces in the Campground and the RV village
('our' areas) to the general public. It was confirmed today that they
have a waiting list for quite a few non-USCA folks.
***We have a number of reservations of various types with the Camp
Richardson facility, that have NOT YET pre-registered with Tom Hansen, for
the Rally. It would be helpful for meal planning, mug ordering, etc.....to
know how many will be Registering with the Rally on site.
USCA pre-registration and T-shirt orders with Tom Hansen CLOSE with snail
mail postmarked May 25th.
We have a number of folks staying elsewhere's at South Lake Tahoe,
including motels and probably even at the City Campground....etc.
We expect many Rally-goers will be arriving on Thursday, June 25th, so we
will have Rally Headquarters open that afternoon for awhile starting at 3
p.m., for Early Bird Registration, dropping off of White Elephant
donations, etc.
As expected, we have some folks who are making a longer vacation of the
Rally, and are arriving days earlier, and leaving days later.
We seem to have fewer folks camping at Camp Richardson than Penny and I had
expected. We've concluded that a considerable portion of USCA members,
and fellow sidecarists, are not campers. Shame. It is a truly beautiful
heavily treed area, with free showers, tables/benches, heavy steel lockers
which are lockable, etc.
It's time for YOU to make that decision to come to the USCA National,
follow-through on it, and be one of the first 200 that receive a Rally Pin
(only 200 were made). If you want Rally shirts (the initial batch is being
printed this week), Rally Pins, ...or a campground or RV
spot...............register quickly with USCA and with Camp Richardson.
Time is running out....USCA pre-reg, and Camp Richardson reserved
registration closes in 7 days! Prices go considerably UP for USCA
Registration and T-shirts after May 25th.
The Canadian Big Foot sidecar folks will be combining with us. The
Pullman Hackers, the forerunner of the USCA, will have their 40th
anniversary reunion here with us. Carla King will be here to do a seminar,
as will "Coach" Ramey, and Al Johnson. The Bakker-Ryan Bonneville race
sidecar will be here on display.
We now have a full Rally Schedule, clickable from the website page.
Much of the Rally fun will be held at the Rally Site. You are going to
like Camp Richardson, and the weather.
The Rally Games and Show'n Shine, will be 4-1/2 miles south (about 7
minutes away)....we are taking over the entire north part of the Airport
ramp on Saturday morning, right after we all gorge on the Kiwanis breakfast
at the hotel picnic area across from the Rally site. There are going to
be Guided Tours too.
We have already collected some nice gifts from Vendors...and also about 25
White Elephant items, some are very nice things to have, and some are quite
'off-the-wall'. We expect many Attendees to be bringing White Elephant
items.
See you here!
