We were to ride to Frankenmuth tomorrow October 4, 2009. This ride has been
canceled due to hazardous weather conditions. We will be discussing alternatives
at our meeting in Auburn Hills on October 11, 2009 at 3:00pm. It will be at
Applebee's.
Thank you very much, hope to see you next weekend!

The website has been updated to reflect the change in the October ride. There is a new blog up as well and message to boot!
The new Facebook page will be up by the end of the week and as for the old page, there were some administrative issues that have been laid to rest. New page coming soon to the FaceBook near you!!!

WHEN will the website be updated to reflect the correct information? I checked it late last night to make sure that the ride was on the October 3 ...I will be unable to make it due to the schedule change for October 4. As to the new Facebook page...WHAT happened to the old one?

Hi all,
We (the board) wanted to let every one know that we had a great ride to Hell
(Michigan). The weather was wonderful and the sun glowed brightly on our group
of six bikes and nine attendees. We wanted to send a special thanks to
fembikerchic and jul for meeting us in Hell. We hope to see you two at the next
ride or meeting.
While in Hell we took the time to have a board meeting with those in attendence
and discovered and error with our next ride. The website says this ride is
scheduled for Saturday October 3, but is actually Sunday October 4. We hope
everyone can make it. Like always we meet in the park lot behind Affirmations in
Ferndale, MI. Anyone is welcome to join us for the ride. BUT, you must be

Also, we wanted to let everyone know, we will have a new Facebook account set up
by the end of the week.
Ride safe, The Board of DOBD
I have been lurking in the shadows for sometime now...and just decided to join
the group.
Your website says that your next ride is October 3. Where and when in Royal Oak
will the group be meeting at for the ride? DO I have to attend a meeting first
or can I just attend the ride?
L
Facebook has finally allowed us to assign a username to the link for the DOBD
page. You can now find us at http://www.facebook.com/DykesOnBikesDetroit.com -
this page is available for everyone, even if you don't have a facebook account.
Tell all your friends to stop by and check us out.
The September DOB meeting is currently scheduled for 9/6 which happens to be
smack dab in the middle of Labor Day Weekend. While it is still possible for Jen
and I to be there ... it is entirely possible that we will NOT be there.
As a side note ... I'd like to voice my opinion that doing rides on Sundays no
longer works for Jen and I except for the short half day ones. I know why they
were moved to Sundays, and if the majority of the crew needs them to remain on
Sundays then so be it, but it will mean that for most of the rides Jen and I can
no longer attend.
Shane
Sorry the Ride to Hell didn't go so well. I'd like to toss out my opinion that
we not reschedule it in place of the existing rind in September based solely on
distance. There are plenty in the group who have ridden 200 plus in a day,
including all who attended Michigan Pride as that was between 200 and 250 miles
round trip.
THE RIDE DIDN'T GO SO WELL. I GUESS I SHOULD HAVE POSTED SOMETHING ABOUT THE RIDE. MICHELLE, THE NEW LADY GERI, AND I WERE THE THREE WHO SHOWED. WE STARTED OUT THE RIDE, BUT MICHELLE'S BIKE WAS HAVING SOME ISSUES. WE TRIED RIDING ON THE HIGHWAY TO "BLOW OUT" ANY CARBON BUILD UP THAT MAY HAVE BEEN CAUSING THE SPUTTERING, BUT IT DIDN'T WORK. SO . . . . . . . . . UNFORTUNATELY WE HAD TO CANCEL THE RIDE. TOO BAD, TOO, BECAUSE IT WAS SUCH A NICE DAY FOR A RIDE!!!! WE COULD TRY AND RESCHEDULE THIS RIDE FOR NEXT MONTH, IN PLACE OF THE BREAKFAST IN RUSSIA RIDE, (SINCE THAT ONE IS 8 HOURS) AND NOT SURE ANY OF US HAVE RODE FOR THAT KIND OF DURATION????? JUST A THOUGHT.
ANYWAY, TAKE CARE LADIES, AND WE'LL SEE YA'LL AT THE NEXT MEETING. :o)

So how did the ride go on Sunday? How many DOBD gals made the ride? I had to be up north that week-end and there were a lot of bikers up there.

Ladies - just wanted to let you know that Jen and I will not be able to make the
Ride for Autism this Saturday. I was hoping that we could fit in in on our last
weekend before our camping trip but there is far too much yet to be done in
preparation, not to mention around the house since it will be a nice weekend for
a change.
To all who will be riding Saturday, Be careful out there and have a good time
for us.
See you in September.
Thanks! I appreciate your encouragement. Love my vest!

Duff,
Obviously I hadn't read this until just now, Tracy was on over the weekend since she was home sick. I am so sorry to hear that you won't be in the class until the Spring, but we want you to know you are part of us! Tracy took the two week class herself and said if she had to do it in 3 days she wasn't sure she would have passed. It really is motorcycle bootcamp, the three day course; and it is very exhausting! I took it when I was 30 and was beat down exhausted beyond belief by the end of the first day! We LOVE you and are very grateful to have you at the back of the pack keeping an eye on us and being a roadie! We'll get you in the pack yet! You know we will! Heard you got your vest back! Can't wait to see it and you! -Heath

Just letting you know, I have realized that I am not ready to take the safety class. I probably won't take it until next year in the two week class. I still have the health problems that limit how much I can do at one time and I definitely need more practice on low speeds. So I'm gonna be with the parking lot for tight turns and low speed control and the immediate neighborhood for the rest of this year.
But I plan on being an active member and do as many activities as I can, even its in my truck. Planning on going with you tomorrow!
The good news is that I tipped my bike in the parking lot this morning and my engine guards really work And I got the bike upright on my own.
WELL ladies,
WE got wet on the way home on Sunday...just a couple of minutes and were dry by
the time we pulled into the garage.

Sounds like a wise decision, to wait till next year when you have some more
practice and endurance built up. And ... CONGRATULATIONS on dumping your bike!
No I'm not being sarcastic at all. It is a fact that just about anyone who rides
a motorcycle will at some point drop it. It is a fear in the back of every
bikers mind, and those who deny it are lying, and having the knowledge that you
have done it once already, survived to tell the story, and managed to pick your
ride back up, dust it off, and ride away from the scene goes a long way to calm
that little fear.
Hopefully you know what you did wrong, know how to prevent it from happening
again, and this will be the last time you have to test your physical and mental
strength to get back up and ride away.

Hello. The ride you mentioned sounds like a great ride. I love long rides. I
joined this sight on line but have not been able to catch any of the rides yet.
I live in Ohio but my girlfriend lives in Lapeer MI so Im in the area when I
can. If you plan the ride ahead of time hopefully I could get off work and we
could join you all. Also I wanted to let everyone know about a ride im doing in
Aug. Its a 911 ride. The ride gos to all three spots where the plains went down.
Its Aug 20,21/22. If anyone is interested check out the web at
www.americas911ride.com . Its a great ride and the most organized ride I have
ever been on. Its completely police escorted and they have a trailer and
mechanics and fire truck on the ride also. Water and food at stops and refuelers
at gas stations. There is a group of us leaving from Canton, OH on Thursday Aug
20th if anyone would like to join us.

Hey ladies, Jen and I are thinking of putting together a fall color ride for a
weekend in September that basically retraces our route from the 4th of July ride
in the Thumb. It was about 350 miles round trip from our house in Grand Blanc,
so closer to 400 from the metro Detroit area, and a BEAUTIFUL ride along M-25
that would be in full fall color in September.
We don't have official plans as of yet but thought this might be a good
opportunity for a little "unofficial DOBD Ride" if any of you are interested in
a weekend ride along mostly two lane highway through the country. This trip
would also be open to those who don't yet have their bike, or who would not be
comfortable riding that far as chase cars are always a good thing!

Any one thinking of going to D.C. in October for the March? We've gone to the last two and they were great times. Nothing like having over 500,000 of us in one place at the same time. Janet and I are planning on going and I think it would be great to have as many of DOBD with us.
