I am in the market for a hotshot or supersport. I currently have a 51
superwagon that I restored and am working on a 49 pickup and a 50
sedan. I plan to sell the wagon. I have decided that I am ready to look
for a hotshot or supersport. I am interested in an origial as possible
car and hopefully one that has been restored. I will consider whatever
is out there. I am hoping to find one before it ends up on ebay. Should
you have one or know of someone who is looking to part with one please
contact me at aenderle3@.... Thanks so much

We'll post the
particulars here on all
Crosleys we find for
sale, and there have
been some VCs offered
for sale over the past
six months. Keep
checking, and if you
get a chance, tell us
about your '51 station
wagon, Arthur.

I'll start myself by
talking about my '42 CB-
42 Liberty Sedan. On
the first Sundayof
every May there's a
great Waukegan (IL)
Chapter AACA meet/swap
in Grays Lake IL. I had
my unrestored '47
Sports Convertible
there (which won a Most
Potential trophy - was
that a compliment? ;-)
and there was a Chicago
couple there walking
around looking to sell
a one-owner Liberty
(though nobody then
knew what it was) at an
estate sale in Chicago.
I delayed following up
until June (bad choice,
but it worked out
anyways) and it was
still available.

The brother-in-law I'd
met at Grays Lake, Mr.
Al Grywa of Chicago (we
became friends and he's
now deceased), was the
executor and said
another relative (who
he despised) was a
professional clown and
wanted the car to use
as a prop. Al wanted me
to buy it, for one main
reason - to screw over
his brother-in-law. He
said by law he had to
take top bid and with a
wink he said $600 would
be top bid. Sounds
cheap, but $600
happened to be all the
money I had at the
time. He even threw in
a nice '73 Chevrolet
Impala four-door
hardtop, which became
my main ride for four
years.

Anyways, it ran like a
champ and I finally
restored it by 1989.
The Grywas visited here
in 1995 to see it.
Right now Al Calvin is
doing the engine,and
it's going to be a
great summer. (Thanks,
Al!)

Will that work?
We have a Older Cub in our fleet. The starter is also a generator.
Pretty sure we had our starter/generator rebuilt at a local starter repair
shop.

I am not sure where the photo’s have been sourced. However I have a large Crosley Literature Collection and several factory photos inside the Marion Indiana plant taken in 1947.  I would be willing to scan and share with the Club if requested by an officer of the Club.

Please, no individual requests as I am not wanting to be bombarded with e-mail requests. Lets just put them on the Club site and those that want them can down load from there, thanks.

This is a tough one.  I would opt for the original as you and I are "original" kind of guys.  However the Service Motors item is really a bit of advertiseing and I am sure there is good reason as they were likly the host of the original club.  However, as we are recreating that club years after its demise and the original Service Motors is long gone, I see no reason to continue advertiseing for something non existant....They are gone but the club is reborn...I thus opt for the new design.
I know no discussion was asked but I thought I would wade in with my own ideas and stimulate a bit of discussion prior to my vote.  I would be open to having both....in honer of the the original and as a statement to the new!

Just a minor correction to your post.

The "Original Service Motors" is NOT long gone, we are still the

Fonda and I are just the third owners, that's all, but still the same

I certainly wasn't trying to slight you, your wife or your business.  You are a profoundly great assest to our community.
To clairify, the ORIGINAL Service Motors was in New Jersey. Original derives and implies origin, the starting point, the beginning.  Example;  Henry Ford is the ORINGAL founder of Ford Motor Company.  The Ford was the original offering of the Ford Motor Company.  Etc.  The name and business have been sold twice to, I believe I recall correctly, two individuals who now and then reside in Indiana.  Thus the ORIGINAL Service Motors flip side of the ORIGINAL Crosley Club logo is now an advertisement for a business locale which is defunct.
Again I meant no slight to you, the current and ongoing Service Motors, nor anyone else who could take offense at my missive.
The point I struggled to make is the ORIGINAL decal, is one sided with superfilous infomation of a business location and phone number which no longer exist.  Why perpetrate the long gone?  And too I recognize the other argument too, "Because it is the orignal decal".
On the other hand, a few ideas fly in my face to modernize the ORIGINAL addenda, but that would not be for me to offer nor suggest on this forum.
Respectfully
Robert Kirk

I need to go pick up a Crosley Wagon I bought. I need to know can you
put a 1948 wagon in the back of a modern pickup truck?

Even if I have to have a rollback put in in and out it would be a lot
easier than trailering.

Thanks, Jack email at picdev@...

Hello Jack,

A modern, full sized pickup, with 8 foot bed (4 foot between the wheel
wells) will hold a Crosley. You just have to run with the tailgate down
and the rear tires sitting on it.

We've done it a number of times.

If the members' choice would be the retro design, I was actually thinking of
just reproducing the face of it without the historic advertising. That
particular photo shows both sides. Thanks.

No problem with a full sized PU.  Tail gate down and engine forward....might take some board to help spread the rear axle weight to the bed off the gate.

Hey Jim,
Your challenged personality type is legend among those who know you well.  Seems as though you haven't changed much since I first contacted you to help me obtain a Crosley 10 years ago and got about the same kind of "Christian" remarks and advice.
I for one feel no egg on my face nor foot in my mouth.  If offense was taken I openly apoligized that offense was taken.  I don't apoligize for any mis statement and further explained, with analogies, precisely what "Original" means.
Our forum is about helping folks and openly expressing opinions in a friendly and civil manner.  We have no "in group" or "clique" here, and freely and openly share with all Crosley Autophiles.
Butch and Fonda are greatly appreciated by most of our members if not all.  You on the other hand seem to want to promote a non issue with abrasive and coarse and frankly childish meaness!  I openly suggest you confine your "out of lurking mode" comments to either postive and productive or not at all.
I trust the princple moderator is aware of your palid and paltry attack and considers blocking you from further negitive and meaningless wet noodle attacks.
Regards
R Kirk

Egg on you face is still egg on your face eat it!!

Butch
Robert Kirk

Hello Robert,

Just a minor correction to your post.

The "Original Service Motors" is NOT long gone, we are still the
"Original Service Motors"!

Fonda and I are just the third owners, that's all, but still the same
company. (Just ask LOU)!

Original")

Howdy-

Did you find a source for printing water decals? I've been looking
for years and haven't found any place that can do them with
colorfast inks. Please email me offline timtmaker at yahoo if you
do have a source for water decals...

thanks!

Q: "How can I prevent rear wheel oil seals from leaking?"

A It's difficult but Crosley recently came out with a seal which does a much better job. It's Part #304911 and lists for $1.25 each.

I failed to get the new seals installed. They were way too big to drive in. Had to use the old ones.............pete

I have a source for the materials but it ain't cheap....inquire directly if interested.  The slide types are becoming rare due to the ease and thriftyness of the vinyl type.
