There still is the remnant of a GM fan club (!!) of fanatical
(former) EV1 once-pro-GM drivers:

Can you imagine anyone STUPID enough to be a GM fan, now?? GM had
customer loyalty that wouldn't quit, and threw it away!
GM couldn't even get a "designer edition" club for its niche
Solstice POS.
Now, GM hides its head in shame when the EV1 is mentioned, and can't
get ANY customer bonding the way EV1 drivers bonded.
GM once had loyal drivers willing to get arrested to get an EV1,
blocking the sidewalk "fiercely", two Hollywood star-hotties getting
handcuffed by reluctant Burbank Cops.
Willing to stand in the worst rainstorm L.A. ever had, in the nexus
of the SFV, the headwaters of the occasionally mighty L.A. River, 28
days in the rain, just for the chance to BUY an EV1!
GM even owned the *batteries* needed for all plug-in production
cars, the Nickel Metal Hydride batteries still needed for all
production hybrids, even those that can't plug in.
Yes, GM once owned the patents rights to the Prius batteries!
GM SOLD those rights, on Oct. 10, 2000, to Texaco, which on Oct. 16,
2000, became CHEVRON (Standard Oil). Yes, GM and Standard Oil
worked together!
GM had the niche market, the celeb market, the lock on all things
green, the king of high MPG cars -- the EV1, that went up to 200
miles on the energy equivalent of a gallon of gas -- WITHOUT THE GAS.
GM IS PAYING NOW FOR ITS SINS.
PAYBACK IS INFINITE.
EV1 SMILES GRIMLY FROM CAR HEAVEN.
