I did the same - as there was around 30-40mm of damaged cable I felt it was better to solder in new sections, rather than risk pulling the original cable tight by trying to fit a connector. They only time you'll need a connector there is if you ever have to take off your alternator cover, which isn't going to be often.

okay, so the infamous 3 yellow wire set that comes from the main harness up to the regulator/rectifier underneath the tailsection burned up on me. 2 wires...
